Jon and I both joined Tinder and swiped right. Jon was living in Eastpointe, but joined when he was up in Roscommon. I was living in Grayling. We started talking through the Tinder messenger. After talking for a few days we started to text and talk on the phone. Jon told me he was going to be back up in Roscommon that next weekend and we made plans to meet for brunch. Jon drove the 3 hours after he got off work on Friday. Our plans were for Sunday since I had to work Saturday night. I sent Jon a few texts throughout the day, but he never responded. It was slow at work so I told him to come and sit at the bar with me while I was working. Finally about an hour later he sent me a text saying he was very sorry but he had an emergency at work and had to rush back home to help fix the problem. I joke with him saying he stood me up on our first date. He said he would be back up in a couple weeks and we could try it again. It didn't take Jon but a week to come back. We had a date to go tubing. It took Jon longer to get to Grayling this time than he thought it would. By the time he finally got to Grayling we decided to change our plans. We ended up getting dinner and going hiking in Hartwick Pines State Park.

Jon thought he was going to meet someone he could hang out with and have a good time while we was getting away to his family's vacation place. Little did he know, he would end up coming up every weekend and sometimes during the week until I moved down to Warren and we moved in together.

We made plans to take Emily to stay the weekend with her friends up in Grayling over Memorial Day weekend. The band always has a carnival that weekend and she wanted to go see her friends. After we dropped her off at her friends house, we decided to recreate our first date. We went to Hartwick Pines and hiked to the chapel. When we came out Jon pulled me into a hug and said in my ear, "I love you more than the world. You are my soul mate and the love of my life." I still didn't realize what was happening. Then he pulled away from me and kept talking. He said "There is one more thing that I need to complete me." It finally dawned on me what was happening while he was getting down on one knee and then he said "Martha, will you marry me?" It took me a moment to get the yes out, but was I shaking my head yes while I had tears in my eyes. That day was perfect!
