Baltimore Woods Nature Center fosters enduring stewardship of our natural world by offering immersive programs and a place in Central New York for everyone to cultivate appreciation and personal connections to nature through environmental education, recreation, play, and research. We put nature in your hands.

Part of the Central New York community since 1966, Baltimore Woods Nature Center is located on 182 acres of land in Marcellus. Visitors to Baltimore Woods come from the surrounding area to hike our trails and participate in our on-site nature day camps, public programs, and fundraising events.

In addition to on-site programming, Baltimore Woods’ award-winning Nature in the City program is in its 17th year, providing place-based hands-on, minds-on science education to all 19 elementary schools in the City of Syracuse.

Our trails are open to hikers everyday from dawn to dusk.

Established in 1972, the Park is part of the Town of Camillus Park system. We are a highly utilized, established park on site of the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor Upstate New York, which encompasses the multi-use Empire State Trail. When completed, it will run from Manhattan, north to the northern tip of Lake Champlain and east to west from Albany to Buffalo.

Offering our visitors a variety of informational and entertaining options ranging from over 13 miles of scenic wooded paths and walkways for hiking and biking, to boat rides along the historic Erie Canal, the Park is the perfect setting for a leisurely stroll or an evening dinner cruise.

Our main museum, Sims’ Store Museum, combines the old-fashioned charm of a canal store complete with a quaint gift shop, exhibits, early photos, maps of the canal with models of locks, aqueducts and canal boats.

From April – early October take one of our 45 minute narrated boat rides over our famous aqueduct! We pride ourselves in being the most affordable boat ride in New York State, so come get your family on the water! Our boats are available for private charter also. Please contact us for more information.

The Steam Engine Exhibit is a truly unique opportunity to see a fully restored, turn-of-the-century steam powered Corliss Engine power plant and learn about the technology that was “hot” during the industrial revolution of America.
