Our Wedding

Sixth grade Life Sciences class with Ms.Coram. That is where we first met—two geeky kids, barely teenagers, sitting across one another. Gabe asked for my phone number and if I thought he was cute (in the form of a love note of course), and after I circled “yes,” thus began our “relationship.” By middle school standards, two weeks of mutual affections, secretly texting and talking on the phone, and awkwardly exchanging glances, was a pretty serious relationship. Then we broke up, because I technically was not allowed to date at that age, and so Gabe, scorned, replied “if you don’t like me, I’m never going to speak to you again!”&nbsp; 	Now, although we spent the rest of middle school and high school limiting our interactions, it seems that we were meant to awkwardly run into each other again. This time, we met again as young college students, while waiting for our mutual friends to meet up, so that we could all go clubbing in downtown SD together. At this point in time, we were always the 5th and 6th wheels while hanging out with our friends, and thus were frequently lumped together. Over time, we embraced this and became drink/beer buddies. We spent a lot of time getting to know one another while exploring all the new breweries that were popping up around SD. Eventually we evolved into being best friends.&nbsp; 	Then, one September day, Gabe was skating down the biggest hill at San Diego State University while on his way to class. His board caught a rock, and catapulted him to the wall of a nearby building, before he finally collided with the asphalt. He was rushed to the UCSD Hillcrest Medical Center, to their trauma bay to be assessed for injuries. At the same time, I just completed my NCLEX and was out at a nearby bar for celebratory drinks when I received a Snapchat of Gabe in the hospital bed, with a c-collar along with two casts and a swollen face. We rushed to the hospital to visit Gabe and see how he was doing, and what happened.&nbsp; 	Fortunately, Gabe was discharged from the hospital after a few days, and was sent home to rest and heal up. Since I was the only one of our friends finished with school at the time, I spent a lot of time with Gabe while he was couped up at home in his casts. We spent a majority of the beginning watching Studio Ghibli movies on the couch. If we weren’t awkwardly closing in the distance between us on the couch, I was driving us to a restaurant or brewery to get Gabe out of the house.&nbsp; 	On October 16th, we went to our favorite brewery, Duck Foot Brewing, to discuss and define what our relationship was. We were both drinking “Drink This or the Bees Die” beer from Duck Foot, while fiddling with our glasses and stumbling over our words to bashfully express our mutual affections.&nbsp;&nbsp; 	A few years later, on October 19th, we were enjoying the beautiful SD weather at our favorite picnic spot in La Jolla. While taking pictures of me by the cove, Gabe knelt down on one knee. Once I turned around, after receiving encouragement from on-lookers only moments prior, Gabe nervously asked me to marry him~~&nbsp; 	And so, here we are! Engaged, trying to plan our wedding in the midst of a pandemic. Although we have had to make unconventional changes to the ceremony and the “reception,” we are elated to finally share our wedding plans and share in the celebration with everyone we love!&nbsp;
