Neither Charlie nor Mary Frances remember the first time they met, but they both agree that it probably happened sometime in 2006.&nbsp; Chances are they were in a smelly, crowded basement several blocks from the Marquette University campus, crowded around a keg of terrible beer.&nbsp; Mary Frances' first impression was probably something like "Wow, I wonder if that guy realizes how many times he spilled on his shirt."&nbsp; Charlie's first impression was probably something like, "Man, I really wish I could hear what that girl is saying."&nbsp;&nbsp;

Over the next several years they had many similar experiences, and discovered that they enjoyed each other's company, but they went their separate ways after graduation and didn't see much of each other for a long time.&nbsp;&nbsp;









That all changed on a blustery evening in late October of 2016.&nbsp; Charlie had moved back to Milwaukee the year before, but had never gotten around to reconnecting with all of his old Marquette friends.&nbsp; Freddy and Whitney Shamoon, two friends of theirs from college, were in town for the weekend and wanted to see as many people as possible.&nbsp; They invited Charlie and Mary Frances to dinner but somehow forgot to mention to either of them that the other would be there.









Charlie got there first, and Mary Frances arrived a few minutes later.&nbsp; When he looked up and saw her walking toward the table, two thoughts simultaneously went through Charlie's head.&nbsp; The first was "Shit, Freddy totally didn't tell me that Fritz was going to be here.&nbsp; I was not prepared for this!"&nbsp; The second was "Wow, I can't believe I never noticed how beautiful she is."&nbsp; While those thoughts were going through his head he spent several seconds gawping at her without saying anything, enough so that she thought he didn't recognize her.









While Charlie was gawping at her, Mary Frances shifted uncomfortably and said, "Do you know who I am?" He said, "Of course I do!" And Fritz&nbsp;chuckled thinking to herself, "That was awkward and adorable."
