This is where we are getting married! :-) Hunting Island State Park is one of the most popular state parks and beach areas in South Carolina. The Hunting Island beach attracts over a million visitors a year.The pristine sandy beach, natural setting and warm Atlantic Ocean make a perfect getaway. Hunting Island features a campground, which has spaces for RV's and tent campers, as well as a primitive camp site for established groups. The camping area has very easy access to the beach. <img src="http://www.huntingisland.com/images/bkgs/spacer_text.gif">Fishing is popular in the lagoon, surf and the fishing pier which st reaches 1120 feet into the Fripp Inlet. Located at the pier entrance, is the Nature Center, which has some very nice exhibits of the local wildlife and marine life. Nature trails, Visitor Center, natural beach and even a boat landing.. Hunting Island State Park is not just another beach...it's a nature and wildlife paradise. There is a state park gate entrance fee of $5.00/person and another $2.00 to climb the lighthouse which is well worth every penny for the treasure and satisfaction of this gorgeous park, lighthouse and beach experience.

From the top platform, one can get a breathtaking view of the ocean, beach and the marshland. Don't forget your cameras! The historic Hunting Island lighthouse was originally constructed in 1859 and is the only lighthouse in the state of South Carolina that is open to the public. From the top platform, for those who are adventurous enough to climb the 167 step spiral staircase, one truly can get a birds eye view of the Atlantic Ocean, the park and surrounding marshes from about 132 feet above the ground. The first lighthouse was destroyed by the confederates during the beginning of the Civil War to prevent the Union from using it as a means of navigation. It was rebuilt and placed back into service in 1875. The purpose of this lighthouse was to warn ships to stay far away, as there are many hazards such as sandbars, wrecks, surf and treacherous currents. It was deactivated in June of 1933. There is a state park gate entrance fee of $5.00/person and another $2.00 to climb the lighthouse which is well worth every penny for the treasure and satisfaction of this gorgeous park, lighthouse and beach experience.

The Point is a lovely place for a peaceful walk and within walking distance from Bay Street in downtown Beaufort. The neighborhood is full of history and very much alive and in the present. The homes are well cared for and loved. If you like architecture, or just the aesthetics of old stately homes and live oaks with Spanish moss, you will love it.
