Richmond, VA is considered the #1 Beer destination in the world. Here's some of our favorites:
Scott's Addition: 20 min drive from the venue. Renovated warehouse district full of microbreweries including (listed below):
-THE VEIL BREWING COMPANY
- ARDENT CRAFT ALES
-STARR HILL BEER HALL & ROOFTOP
-STRANGEWAYS BREWING RVA
If you go to Scott's Addition, consider eating at Fat Dragon.
Long drive-But the best patio with a view!
Amazing facility with outdoor seating
and of course, the venue has a brewery--which is also one of the best in the area.
Richmond is a foodie town with a hipster/punk culture putting out highly awarded grub. Downtown 20-30 minutes in Westhampton, Cary Town, and downtown areas are where you'll find the best restaurants like Beijing on Grove, Continental, East Coast Provisions, Edo Squids, and PostBellum to name a few.
If you want to dine somewhere closer, there are many options in Short Pump as well. The Mall at Short Pump has many of the big brands you would recognize, but here are a few Short Pump stops you may want to check out:
- Peter Chang Cafe: highly awarded Pan-Asian chef in casual family setting
- Lehja: Indian
- Tazza Kitchen: brick oven pizzas, cocktails, tacos
- The Daily Kitchen and Bar
The lower James River is the short trip to do, and the Falls of the James is the longer trip. If there has been substantial rain there are a couple of decent rapids, but usually it's a pretty light class I&II. Great way to see the city skyline!
Large Park with walking trails in the middle of the James River. A Civil War prison with no walls, but cannon aimed at the prisoners threatening to kill many if any few prisoners tried to escape. Now, it's a beautiful park with walking and biking trails--and don't miss the hanging pedestrian bridge!
-park at or near Tredegar Iron Works (Civil War museam) and follow the crowds to the hanging pedestrian bridge
- make sure to see the old hydro plant (something straight out of a S. King novel), the old quarry, bring water shoes to wade in the river and check out some of the old structures on the Isle.
Interesting huge, old cemetery. Is a large, sprawling cemetery located next to Richmond, Virginia's Oregon Hill neighborhood at 412 South Cherry Street. Characterized by Rolling Hills and winding paths overlooking the James River, it is the resting place of two United States Presidents, James Monroe and John Tyler, as well as the only Confederate States president, Jefferson Davis. It is also the resting place of 28 Confederate generals, more than any other cemetery in the country; these include George Pickett and J.E.B. Stuart.
Nice strolls through small animal farm, Japanese Garden, and old estate & mansion. Nice place for a picnic (or cross country race iykyk).
There is too much revolutionary, pre-civil war, and civil-war history to list. St. John's Church (give me liberty or give me death speech), downtown canal tours (initially designed by George Washington), and many more. If you would like to take a tour, recommend RVAonWheels Segway tour--or, if that's too dorky for you, consider a tuktuk tour by RVATukTuk.
small house, once inhabited by everyone's favorite dark poet.
