Matt Gouchoe-Hanas

Matt&nbsp;and Sol started school together in first grade in Sky Class at Carolina Friends School. They shared a passion for sports from the beginning and could often be found playing basketball knockout in Sol's childhood bedroom, imitating professional and peer shooting forms. Since then, Matt&nbsp;and Sol, along with Jack, Henry, Abe, and Liam, spent countless hours together watching movies, playing board games, and finding endless other means of enjoying each other's company. While College took them to different places, Ultimate brought Sol and&nbsp;Matt&nbsp;together each summer both as teammates and co-coaches. In the Summer of 2019,&nbsp;Matt&nbsp;and Mary (and Liam!) were teammates on the U24 USA Mixed National Team were they traveled to Germany to compete in the U24 World Championships. Matt&nbsp;and Sol have spent nine seasons as club teammates, culminating in September of 2024 at the World Ultimate Championships in Australia.&nbsp; After over 20 years of friendship,&nbsp;Matt&nbsp;is thrilled to have a front-row seat in the next adventures in Sol and Mary's lives.&nbsp;

Matt's Story

Mary and I met thanks to none other than the sport of ultimate frisbee.&nbsp;After playing together for a year, our friendship continued through similar interests such as watching scary movies, talking about frisbee, going on hikes, and loving Mary’s cat Boba. We lived together during college as well as after graduating, which was when I got to know Sol better, and the three of us (along with other housemates) enjoyed many, many sessions of mini, Among Us, and occasionally some street hockey (shoutout to the Daddy Puckers). I feel so incredibly lucky to know both Mary and Sol and have them in my life - individually, they are the most thoughtful and caring people and together, they make an amazing couple.

Sarah Moss Yanuck

I met Sol in 1996. I started seeing him everywhere — each long road trip, each night of dishes, each family game where he kept score and I gleefully lost. He’s been my buddy since he arrived on the scene, making me laugh and giving me big hugs… even when he says I laugh at my own jokes too much to do improv. I’m so happy to see him in partnership with someone he loves and grows with. It’s been such a joy to get to know Mary this last handful of years and I’m excited for more!

I met Mary while playing frisbee at UNC, and immediately enjoyed her company! Over the years we became close friends, even as our frisbee careers took different paths. I still recall hearing Mary talk about her first date with Sol, and was so excited to meet this mysterious frisbee man. Through Mary’s stories, it quickly became clear that Sol was a dedicated and loving companion to her, which I was so grateful for, then and now! In time, I got to know Sol more as well, and it was evident that he was the perfect person for Mary, and she for him. I am so grateful and excited to be a part of their big day - and you can bet I will be tearing it UP on the dance floor!!

Nellie's Story

Henry Fisher

I first met Sol in first grade at Carolina Friends School in Sky Class. He was an absolute mack at show n’ tell, and his skills on the soccer field spoke for themselves. We continued to bond in middle school where Sol was essentially king of the castle, and I his right-hand man. In high school we played a lot of sports, took then taught improv together, and tried to constantly one-up each other in AP&nbsp;Bio. In college we did almost the exact same thing, but narrowed our focus to frisbee and medicine. Sol was an invaluable source of support and fun, and I am extremely lucky to have enjoyed his friendship for over two decades. I first met Mary through Sol, and immediately knew she was a fun, happy, smart, and engaged person who was going to bring a lot of light to my life. She’s chill as all get out, and is always down to support and add to our antics. I look forward to many more years of friendship with her.

Henry's Story

Abe Eichner

Sol and I have been friends since middle school.&nbsp;We co-captained our high school frisbee team together, and had sufficient demographic, behavioral, and facial similarities to be frequently confused for each other by our teachers. Fortunately for me, we have not been apart much since. We went to college together and spent many hours in the Carleton dining halls with Henry eating paninis, pizza, and whatever it is that Sol consumes. Nowadays, I see Sol regularly for disc golf and board games. He is one of my favorite people in the world and was a major draw for me to return to North Carolina after law school. I met Mary sometime after college, and feel very fortunate that she has joined our friend group.

Abe's Story

Tracy D'Arbeloff

Tracy and Mary became friends when playing Toro together back in 2019.&nbsp;Their friendship was further cemented by long badly played disc golf sessions throughout Covid. Although they became long distance in 2021 when Tracy moved to Boston, they both made the effort to visit each other every few months and keep in touch. Tracy also knows Sol. She prefers Boba.

Liam Searles-Bohs

Sol and Liam met playing ultimate frisbee at the esteemed Carolina Friends School circa 2011. Liam is especially grateful for hours of post practice chats and throwing that they shared when Liam was a young high schooler and Sol was an old high schooler.&nbsp;Sol shaped Liam’s understanding of what it means to be a leader and what it means to care about something.&nbsp;&nbsp; Liam met Mary later on, circa 2018.&nbsp;They played on the U24 mixed national ultimate frisbee team together.&nbsp;They have since coached UNC Pleiades together.&nbsp;Mary has shaped Liam’s understanding of what it looks like to stick up for someone.&nbsp;&nbsp; Liam is grateful for Mary and Sol and the light they bring to the world.&nbsp;May it grow stronger in tandem.

Jack Stefan

Sol and I go way back to the carpeted floor of CFS where we bonded over board games, improv, and our dietary restrictions. Fifteen years later, our diets are still restricted, board games are still a passion, our improv is worse, but we now have the emotional capacity to share our feelings. Mary and I go less way back to the time Sol introduced her. Fifteen minutes later, Mary's warm and cheerful presence had me convinced that she is superb. Since then, we've spent many an afternoon playing werewolf, admiring Boba, and scouring the aisles of Aldi.&nbsp; Can't wait to spend the next fifteen harvests watching your love grow and blossom!
