Mary and Nathan were both a part of the Millard West Marching Band. Their freshman year in 2016 they both were required to attend JV band camp, which is when they both technically met. That same year, Mary went on to Varsity Band, and Nathan stayed in JV Band. They did not interact much until the second half of their freshman year, when they both were in Concert Band. Being honest, Mary did not notice Nathan much. He was the cute, shy percussion kid in the back of the band room. Nathan on the other hand really noticed Mary. She was the loud, outgoing girl who walked around the band room with her French Horn on her head. The summer going into their sophomore year of high school (2017) is when Nathan got the courage to start texting Mary. In late August of that same year, they decided to officially become boyfriend and girlfriend. The two of them continued to date all throughout high school attending many dances, band trips, and other milestones together.

In 2020, Mary decided she was going to attend the University of South Dakota for college, while Nathan stayed in Omaha to attend UNO. This added a challenge to their relationship being 2+ hours away and no longer being able to easily see each other. With the help of many facetime calls and trips back home to see each other, they made it through the 3.5 years Mary was living in South Dakota.

In December 2023, Mary moved home, and they were finally living close to each other again. This meant the sad goodbyes were over and they got to see each other far more. In February 2024, they took a trip to a local jeweler and started talking about rings! (This made Mary really impatient, lol). After what felt like YEARS of waiting on Wednesday, July 10th, at a local park, Nathan got down on one knee and proposed to Mary!

Mary and Nathan are very different from each other but always find a way to balance each other out. They are truly each other's best friends and are beyond excited for their future together.
