The Wedding Party
We are deeply grateful to the following people for helping make our day special and for their unwavering support along the way and beyond.
Kayla Nutter - Maid of Honor
Kayla has been MaryAnn's best friend since they were in diapers, and in many ways, she's her other half. Kayla is the sweet to MaryAnn's salty and has more patience in her pinky than MaryAnn has in her whole body. Growing up on the same street, they were inseparable—riding bikes, exploring creeks, and playing with their American Girl dolls. Kayla isn't just a best friend; she's like a sister to MaryAnn, and if MaryAnn ever has a daughter, she would name her after Kayla. These days, you can find the two of them either at a Mexican restaurant, grabbing ice cream, or heckling Spencer. The best nights are when they manage to do all three!
Austin Nightingale - Best Man
Austin is the silliest member of Spencer’s group and is always the last to leave the dance floor. He and Spencer met during their first week at Wabash and have been great friends ever since. Austin hails from the beautiful Chandler, AZ, where he now works as a member of the Tempe Police. He has some of the best stories from his adventures on the job—bound to make you laugh so hard you’ll run for the bathroom! Spencer couldn’t have asked for a better friend and best man. MaryAnn and Spencer love visiting Austin and his wife, Carly, in Arizona, where they soak up the warm weather, enjoy plenty of games, and dabble on occasional off trail hikes.
Lauren Combs - Bridesmaid & Match Maker
Lauren and MaryAnn met at Indiana State University and clicked instantly, bonding over coffee, cocktails, and dancing at the local college bars. Two years later, Lauren accidentally introduced MaryAnn to Spencer—and the rest, as they say, is history (we owe you for that, Lauren!). MaryAnn loves Lauren’s dedication to fitness, mental health, and her friends. Even now, you’ll still find them tearing it up on the dance floor, but these days they make sure to have a well-rounded meal beforehand.
Matthew Penola - Groomsman
Matt is another brother from Wabash, and thanks to their similar curly locks, he and Spencer are often mistaken for family. MaryAnn affectionately calls him the “sweetie” of the friend group, and he proudly holds the title of the biggest food lover. If you find yourself unable to finish your meal at the wedding, don’t hesitate to send your plate Matt's way! MaryAnn and Spencer especially love dining on Italian food with Matt, particularly when they're invited to the Penola family home for one of the famous meals prepared by his parents.
Chad Shank - Bridesman
Chad and MaryAnn were high school rivals and lived just down the road from each other. They knew of each other because they both threw parties, and MaryAnn hated when people would leave hers to head over to Chad’s house. Fast forward to post-college, and they became best friends after moving back into their parents' homes. That summer before COVID, they were inseparable, causing havoc among middle-aged bar patrons in Carmel. Now you can catch Chad, MaryAnn, and Spencer at a local dive, playing pool and sharing a bucket of beer.
Lucas Bucina - Groomsman
Bucas, Butch, or King Scheme—call him what you like—has caused more damage to a Cracker Barrel's inventory than anyone else, and the Coke lot at the Indy 500 dreads his arrival. He and Spencer bonded over being the targets of relentless film room slander from their coaches. Nowadays, they enjoy splitting a pitcher of Blue Moon nearly every week at Spencer’s favorite bar, Average Joe’s. MaryAnn does her best to play wingwoman for him—just in case anyone was wondering, Lucas is currently on the market!
Emily Eaton - Bridesmaid
Emily is MaryAnn's newest friend, introduced through their significant others. MaryAnn admires Emily’s incredible hosting skills and their mutual love for good food. Whether they’re searching for the perfect corn dog at the state fair, enjoying a doggy playdate, or facing off in a competitive game night, they always have a blast together. Emily proves that it's never too late to form meaningful friendships—and that not all Butler girls are mean!
Jared Woodward - Groomsman
AKA “Woody,” became close with Spencer during their first semester in Dr. Phillips’ tutorial class, where they laughed about Gilgamesh’s adventures and endured veggie taco dinners. Since graduating, Jared has become Captain Jarhead, proudly serving his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps, specializing in [redacted]. MaryAnn and Spencer look forward to the weekends when Jared is home visiting so they can hang out with Bob and Kelly, Jared’s parents.
Sidney Shaffer - Bridesmaid
MaryAnn and Sidney met in middle school when a boy was bullying Sidney, and MaryAnn quickly stepped in to put a stop to that. From that moment on, they were best friends, spending their afternoons devouring pizza rolls, watching weird Netflix movies, and lounging by the pool at Sidney's house. These days, they enjoy double dates with their soon-to-be husbands and are always on the lookout for the best espresso martini.
Jack Lucas - Groomsman
This gentleman is Spencer’s oldest friend in the group. The two met in high school and have remained very close ever since. Over the years, they’ve spent countless days and nights sitting around the pool, enjoying bourbon and cigars at his mom’s house. Now, they cherish “Family Dinners” with MaryAnn and Bernie on Sundays, where Jack often brings MaryAnn flowers, and she prepares gluten-free meals for Jack in return.
Mathew and Inez Millard - Ring Bearers
Mathew is MaryAnn's older brother and only sibling, and growing up, he was the ultimate role model. With stellar grades and a dedication to track and cross country, Mathew set the bar high. But his greatest gift to MaryAnn has been her sister-in-law, Inez. Now in her residency program in Wisconsin, Inez is just as dedicated and hardworking as Mathew. Spencer and MaryAnn are both having their bachelor and bachelorette parties in Wisconsin so that Mathew and Inez can be in attendance (and Summerfest may have had something to do with it!). MaryAnn and Spencer love playing Jackbox games with Mathew and Inez over the holidays, and let’s just say... it gets pretty competitive! During the ceremony, Mathew and Inez will have the special honor of praying over MaryAnn's wedding band and giving it to Spencer.
Sami and Seth Bumbalough - Ring Bearers
Sami is Spencer's little sister and only sibling. Spencer has always admired Sami's tenacity for life and her remarkable ability to manage chaos with grace. As a special education teacher and dedicated coach, Sami is a force to be reckoned with. She met her soon-to-be husband, Seth, at the high school where they both work, and together they now have a beautiful daughter, Neely. Spencer and MaryAnn love visiting them in Tennessee and spoil Neely with cute clothes every chance they get. Sami and Seth will be tying the knot in May 2025, and the family can’t wait to celebrate both weddings! During the ceremony, Sami and Seth will have the honor of praying over Spencer's wedding band and giving it to MaryAnn.
Sam Stewart - Officiant
Sam Stewart is many things: an entrepreneur, a great friend, and occasionally an annoying boss. Spencer met Sam at Wabash, and they quickly became close friends. They spent a lot of time working together on various projects, and Spencer soon became a regular at Sam’s family dinners and board game nights. In the spring of 2023, when MaryAnn was searching for a career pivot, Sam took a chance and offered her an opportunity at not one, but two companies, one being his own. Since then, MaryAnn has been (happily) bossing Sam around. Jokes aside, Sam has been MaryAnn’s favorite manager, and is now like a brother to her. She’ll never be able to repay him for believing in her and giving her a fresh start.
Bernie - Best Boy
Berenstein Boston Millard (soon to be Newmister) gets his name from MaryAnn’s favorite Band Camino song, "Berenstein," and one of MaryAnn and Spencer’s favorite cities—home to the best NHL team in the league, the Bruins. Bernie joined the family in October 2022 and, simply put, remains the best gift Sami has ever given them (with the panini press from Christmas 2021 as a close runner-up). Bernie adores long walks on the Monon Trail, large Greenies, and car rides to visit his grandparents. He’s become the heart of MaryAnn and Spencer’s world. To know Bernie is to love him—he’s truly the best boy.
