How we met: I met Mason early November of 2022. It was my first year of grad school and I was working in the admissions office at the Citadel. Mason was still a senior and would give tours to prospective cadets. He was having technological issues I think, trying to get some things printed out for one of the tour groups they had that afternoon and he couldn't get it printed. He called the office because his supervisor (who worked in the admissions office) told the cadets she worked with to call us if they ever had any issues and she wasn't there. I answered the phone and definitely couldn't help him so I told him I would ask our secretary if she could help. She gave me instructions to give to him and I guess that wasn't good enough because he sighed and told me he was just going to come down there. By the time he got down there, the office ladies and I were just standing around talking so in true Mason fashion, he just jumped right in the conversation. He talked so much that he forgot why he originally came down there, so I had to run some papers to the room the tour group was in. We talked some more then too and I remember thinking how nice, smart, and cute he was. I was definitely interested! How we got started: About a week had gone by since we had met and I hadn't heard from Mason or seen him since. I figured if he didn't want to make some sort of grand gesture, then he would at least follow me on Instagram or something. I did NOT want to be that girl who made the first move and was shot down because how embarrassing would that be! After telling a friend that I had met "some guy" who was kind of cute and kind of interesting (these may or may not have been my exact words...Lydia will have to confirm), I was encouraged to follow him AND send him a DM. I agreed, but then declared that I would NOT be asking him out. Thankfully, I didn't have to because I woke up the next day to a DM from him that said "we should hang out sometime." Good enough for me! We "hung out" about a week later at Bay Street Biergarten. How we got engaged: I pretty much have known that Mason was supposed to marry me ever since our first date. Maybe it was just because I liked him, but I felt like God told me specifically that he was the one. Anyway, in October of 2023, he told me that we would be going to an event downtown at the Wentworth Mansion with our friends Earl and Jackie, and that I needed to get a dress, get my nails done, and just look nice in general. It could have totally been a real event, but in the days leading up to it I told my friends that I just had a feeling and if he was going to propose then it was definitely going to be there. I did have some doubts because this "event" was on a Tuesday and who the heck gets engaged on a random Tuesday. He had Earl and Jackie in on it and as we were driving to the "event," Earl sent Mason a text message that popped up on his Apple car play screen where I could read it. The message read, "we're here, where are you guys?" I thought to myself, "I was wrong and this is totally a real event." I had mentioned to Mason previously that maybe they would let us go to the rooftop area (they're kind of famous for it) before the event, so when we got there, I figured we were just going up there to look really quick and then we would eventually join Earl and Jackie at said made up event. Anyway, after I climbed a flight of the skinniest, curviest, oldest stairs in 6-inch wedges, we got to the top which has such a good view of Charleston. I was distracted from walking around and taking in all in. When I finally turned around, Mason was on one knee. I was jumping up and down (in my 6-inch wedges) because I was so excited to say yes and marry him! I was also excited to be right about him proposing! To this day, I'm still excited!

Charleston Marriott

For out-of-town guests staying at the Marriott, transportation will be provided starting at 4:30 PM to the Summerall Chapel. Following the ceremony, these guests will be transported to the Citadel Beach Club for the reception. When the reception ends around 11:00 PM to midnight, guests will be transported back to the Marriott downtown.
