How We Met

November 9, 2011

We met one night during my freshman year in college at ECU when my friend Emma wanted to go hang out at her friend Kyle's. She asked if I wanted to go with her and ohhh was I sure glad I did. We pulled up to Copper Beech town-homes where Matt was living at the time. Matt was just heading out of the door as we were getting there. All it took was for him to introduce himself to me and I knew right then and there something was very special about him. Later that night as Emma and I were getting back into her car to head home, I looked at her and said "I love that Matt kid". We jokingly laughed about it but I had this feeling that I needed to get to know him. We later exchanged numbers and became great friends. It wasn't until May of 2014 when we finally decided we needed to just make it official. We had the most perfect first date at East Coast Wings watching football together.

Our Proposal

I decided I was going to propose to Mattie on our upcoming cruise that was over New Years. Since my 30th birthday fell over our vacation I knew she would not be expecting it. I had been planning the proposal for a couple months and knew I wanted to do it on a cruise because that is our favorite thing to do together. When we booked our cruise to Nassau in the Bahamas, I knew that was it. That was the very first place we had ever vacationed together when we first started dating so it meant a lot to us. On New Years day, we were docked in Nassau and I knew I wanted to propose that night. As I was getting ready I was the most nervous I had ever been in my life. We were on our private balcony over looking Nassau before dinner with two of our close friends. My buddy Chaz made a toast and I decided at that point it was time to make another toast and I got down on one knee and asked my best friend to be my wife. Thankfully she said YES!
