1. The Pizza Incident at The Boca Raton Bowl
So if you have ever heard the short version of our story, then you know the day Matt and I met I was stealing Matt's pizza - or so Matt's version of the story goes. My version (the actual truth) goes a little more like he actually offered me pizza and then caught me red handed with a mouth full when I thought no one was looking. Either way, the pizza, is how our story began (kind of). So, let's back up a little. The whole reason I was even eating the pizza is because Matt and I were gearing up for the 2014 Boca Raton Bowl. Matt worked at Florida Atlantic University where the bowl game is played, and I was on-site helping set everything up for our sponsors for game day. And although we "shared" pizza - it was not love at first site. Matt was in a previous relationship and I was new to South Florida and enjoying meeting new people and friends. About 6 months after our initial pizza incident, our paths crossed again.
2. Birthday, the Beach, and Bud Light
The night our paths crossed again, Matt, newly single, asked me if I wanted to hang out the following night. Oh, and I forgot to mention the next day was my birthday #awkward. When Matt showed up at my apartment to pick me up, he walked up with a 12-pack of Bud Light and flowers. The first birthday you celebrate together is always awkward, not to mention we weren't even together! This was the first time we had ever hung out! How perfect is he?! I was thinking, forget the flowers, this guy just walked up with a 12 pack of beer with a pink bow on it and I knew my heart was his.
3. The Adventure
From that night on, we were pretty inseparable. And although we didn't officially say "boyfriend or girlfriend" for months - we both knew where we stood and were loving every minute of it. From dates to family vacations to lazy days to trips with just us two, we were having the time of our lives and we knew, this was it, and we had found the one.
4. He Put a Ring on It
After about 2 years, we definitely had had "the talk" about getting married, it was just a matter of when. Well, "when" was November 26, 2016. Matt and I were back in Texas for Thanksgiving. The plan, or so I thought, was to go meet up with my friend, Cristina, and her 1 month old daughter who I had not had the chance to meet yet! When arriving to Megan and Josh's, with no sign of Cristina or her daughter, we decided to go to the park to have a picnic while we waited for Cristina and Sophia to come by. After hiking about a mile in sweltering heat, we found the perfect picnic spot, although at the time I had no idea why everyone cared so much. For the last month, I had been joking and giving him so much grief about us getting engaged, and little did I know what he had up his sleeve. After lots of signs and cues that I didn't even pick up on until after the proposal (like Matt drinking a Jack and Coke at 9:30am because he was so nervous and Megan telling me she was texting Josh non-stop at the park who was sitting right next to us), Matt got down on one knee in Buffalo Bayou surrounded by my best friends and my family (who was lost in the park) and asked me to be his forever.
5. Howdy, Texas!
In August of 2017, Matt and I packed up our Budget Truck (god bless Marla Hooch) and drove the 17 hours to Houston, Texas. We are loving our new life here and getting settled into the Heights area near downtown. We are so excited to start our lives together in Texas and can't wait to share our special day with all of y'all - and for you to experience Texas!! Look through our website and see places to explore, the best places to eat, things to do and places to see. Now, BOTTOMS UP, LET'S GET MARRIED!
