Our story is really our whole story...
We met 15 years ago in Mrs. McCardells English class in Junior High. As you can imagine, Allison was one of the smartest students in the class, while Matt made himself known in other ways. At the time, we did not know what our future together would hold, but Matts Mom had a different feeling. She took one look at Allison and told Matt, She has clean hair, you should date her. Due to clean hair not being high on Matts priority list at the time, our paths did not cross again until our sophomore year at Glenbard West, when we met again at a friends bonfire. That night, Matt fell in love with .... Allisons VW Bug convertible. As we picked drivers to play a game called Fugitive, Matt uninvitedly hopped into the back seat, hoping to ride in that sweet car. As we drove around Glen Ellyn, he started to realize the driver was pretty cute, pretty sweet, and also fond of the TV show How I Met Your Mother (Matt’s all-time favorite). As she looked back in the rearview mirror she started to think that hes kind of cute and pretty funny too. So later that night, we continued to talk and realized we were both pretty cool people. Allison then went off to summer camp for the next week, where she was not allowed to have her phone. When she got back home and was able to check her phone, a friend request on Snapchat from who other than Matt Skelton was waiting for her. A few months later, after our first date at Oberweis, getting stuck in a huge storm playing soccer golf, a Buffalo Wild Wings date (with Matt’s face covered in sauce) and a few more bonfires at the neighbors, Matt and Allison started dating on October 2nd, 2015. Matt and Allison have since made every decision together for the next 10 years. Decisions such as where they would go to college. They both decided on the University of Illinois, where Allison studied to become an Elementary Education Teacher, and Matt got in. This is where Matt and Allisons relationship truly began to blossom into what it is today. They met some of their best friends, learned about the type of people they wanted to be, and what kind of relationships they wanted to have. After graduation, Matt moved to downtown Chicago, where Allison would visit every weekend. Shortly after, Allison also moved downtown. For the next 4 years, Matt and Allison battled adulthood and faced every challenge life had to offer together. Matt is Allison’s best friend. Matt is someone who makes life better just by being part of it. He brings laughter and joy to everyday moments, and is supportive through everything—good or hard. And Allison is Matt’s biggest supporter from race day to lazy Sundays; she is the light of his life, best friend, and soon to be the greatest wife in the world. Which is why on January 18th, 2025, at North Avenue Beach, Matt asked Allison to marry him!
