Matthew and Veronica met Fall 2019, during their sophomore year at Franciscan University of Steubenville. They had both signed up for Student Evangelization Networking Team (SENT) ministries, an outreach ministry at Franciscan University that serves parishes and schools in planning and running retreats for middle school and high school teens. They were placed on the same SENT team and asked to give the vocations talk together. When they met to go over the talk, they both thought it would be a 30 minute meeting. However, despite both being introverts, 2 and a half hours went by and they walked away having found it extremely easy and enjoyable talking with one another. After retreat they became friends, saying hi to each other in passing. In the Spring 2020 semester, they began texting and going to daily morning mass and breakfast together. Their friendship quickly blossomed into spending as much free time together as possible. Matthew asked Veronica out on the Super Bowl and they began “officially” dating March 4, 2020. During the summer of 2020, Matthew did an internship at Franciscan while Veronica worked in Cleveland. Since there were not any restaurants or shopping centers open, they would frequently meet at parks or hiking trails. This became a theme in their relationship, as they have a mutual love for nature, traveling, and being outdoors. They continued growing together throughout undergrad (which may have been a deciding factor in Matthew working in Pittsburgh after graduating). On December 22, 2023, Matthew popped the question to Veronica at Mapleside Farms, a scenic overlook (in the summer) near Veronicas parents house. As they prepare to make their wedding vows on August 2, 2024, they are continuing to fall more in love and are excited to celebrate their new beginnings surrounded by family and friends. They plan to live in Cleveland while Matthew begins a doctoral program at Case Western Reserve University.
