Things To Do (Bermuda FAQs)

Bermuda travel tips and FAQs

1: What currency do they use in Bermuda?

Fun fact, the Bermudian Dollar is always equivalent to the USD.

It is an island so everything is more expensive than you will be used to.

If you do bring American cash, I know some Bermudian friends would be happy to exchange for Bermuda cash for your visit.

You can use American cash or your debit/credit cards without any currency exchange fees*

*Unless your bank isn't cool

2: How will we get around Bermuda?

In Bermuda, tourists unfortunately (but fortunately) are not able to rent cars.

The classic way of travel around for visitors used to be Mopeds, taxis or public transportation ( Busses and Ferries)

In recent years many companies have popped up with safer alternatives for moped rentals and they rent small electric vehicles to visitors.

Bermuda is 21 sq miles and has plenty of charging stations through out.

Here is a link from Bermuda Tourism with a list of Electric Vehicle rentals:

Bermuda also has their own form of Uber called Hitch which is available for download. Alternatively the local taxi company is also available.

Hitch Rideshare App

Taxi Phone Number: 441-295-4141

IN BERMUDA THEY DRIVE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ROAD just like England, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

3: Will we be able to use our Cellphones in Bermuda?

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer:

Contact your cellphone provider about your international plans/ rates.

T-Mobile is free international data and roaming. Verizon charges a daily fee and has limited data.

Most phones are left on Airplane Mode with wifi on to avoid these daily charges.

Free Wifi is usually available in a majority stores, restaurants and certain beaches.

With Google maps if you set your destination in the GPS before leaving a WiFi connection, the GPS will continue to work as you walk or drive around the island until you reach your destination.

4: What should we do/ where should we go?

As the wedding takes place in December, most locals wouldn't consider the island to be beach weather. Bermuda is as far north as North Carolina and the temperature for December can range from 60 - 75 degrees F and the water will be a crisp 70 degrees F.

Bermuda is very small and no matter where you are, you can find a beach, so if the sun is shining, take advantage of it!

The most popular of the beaches (or Matt's favorites)

1: Horseshoe Bay

2: Elbow Beach

3: Warwick Long Bay

4: John Smiths Bay

5: Tobacco Bay.

All are easy to access via Bus and are very easy to find via GPS or asking a Taxi driver.

If the weather for some reason doesn't seem to match the beach going vibe, there are countless museums and historical places to drive around and visit.

Such as; Dockyard and Somerset Village on the west of the island, Gibbs Hill lighthouse or Southlands nature reserve closer to the wedding location. There is also the Town of St. George's on the east end of the island closer to the airport.

The most popular place to visit and where nightlife occurs is the City of Hamilton locally known as Town.

This is where you will find a majority of Bars and restaurants for a night out and I'm sure we will all make a group trip there together at least once.

There are unlimited options for food and will be able to appease anyone's appetites or food restrictions.
