Laura and Matthew’s story starts in Memphis, TN. Matthew moved to Memphis to attend school and Laura grew up there. Their paths first crossed at the local rec pool. Laura frequently trained and coached there and Matthew swam before class. He noticed how fast she was and asked if he could join her for a workout. It was the hardest swim session of Matthew’s life. He wasn’t anywhere as fast as she, but Laura admired his determination and appreciated the company. Over the next year, they would continue to meet for the occasional swim session when their schedules aligned. Swimming progressed to running, biking, and ultimately dating. They realized that they had many other interests in common besides sports. They grew closer and closer with time and each new adventure. Then, Matthew’s school came to an end and his career path led him to Augusta, GA. The dynamic duo were struck with the realization that they would be apart. However, they were determined to make their relationship work. Matthew moved away, and Laura came to visit him whenever she could. Unfortunately, they realized that this wasn’t sustainable, and their relationship was at a turning point. Matthew was afraid he would lose her. But, by her own decision, Laura took a leap of faith and moved to Augusta to be with him. He couldn’t believe that someone would do such a thing to be with him. Matthew knew she was the one and he would do everything he could to hold onto her. He asked her to marry him, and you can guess what she said.
