During the midst of the pandemic in March 2021, Rachel and Matthew first started dating. Despite the challenges, they decided to take a chance and meet for a hike to a waterfall wearing masks! At that time, Matthew was completing his master’s degree at RPI in Troy, while Rachel was a first year teacher and living in Schenectady. After Matt's graduation, he had to move to Easton, PA for work. Rather than letting distance tear them apart, they made the best of their situation, committing to see each other nearly every weekend. Each reunion was an adventure filled with laughter, love, and countless Easton festivals! As the months passed, both of them realized that enduring another year of constant four-hour drives would be a test they might not want to take. When Matt was offered a job in Albany, it felt like the universe was aligning. He jumped at the opportunity, and they took the next big step together by moving in. Living together brought them even closer. They shared dreams of travel, with Matt yearning to visit every national park while Rachel had her sights set on visiting all fifty states. Their evenings and weekends were filled with softball games, snuggles with Kai, and planning future adventures! In August 2024, while vacationing in Lake Placid, they woke up early for a sunrise hike. Despite poorly marked trails, they reached a stunning lookout over the Adirondack Mountains. In that moment, Matt surprised Rachel with a proposal using his grandma’s ring. Overwhelmed with joy, she (of course) said yes!! Now, as they prepare to celebrate their special day surrounded by friends and family, they look forward to a lifetime of shared dreams, laughter, and countless journeys together. Their love story is just beginning, and they can’t wait to see where it takes them next.
