On February 3, 2019, both Matthew Molnar and Rebekah Langston report to the Academy at Quantico, Virginia for a career opportunity of a lifetime...indeed a LIFETIME commitment would begin within 24 hours little did they know. While everyone was focused on the excitement of Super Bowl LIII where the New England Patriots beat the Los Angeles Rams (13 - 3) at the Mercedes-Benz stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, Matthew and Rebekah were more excited about propelling their bureau careers.
The following day during the employee on-board training welcoming new employees and employees transitioning to a new position, the two would meet briefly during a break between presentations. Apparently, Rebekah caught Matthew's eye when dancing to no music to loosen her legs and create bloodflow after sitting for such a long period of time.
Little did Matthew know that Rebekah had already spotted him in the vast audience...she was determined to ignore him and his good looks because they would be nothing, but a distraction. Despite her Matron of Honor stating that she would leave North Carolina and find a guy to fall in love with to which Rebekah laughed thinking otherwise since she would likely be focused on her career and work...immediately Rebekah prepped herself, thinking Matthew likely was NOT going to be in her particular training class, that he was likely assigned to an office FAR away, or that he likely had a HORRIBLE personality.
Little did Rebekah know, that none of those were true. In fact, both were intrigued to learn that they were in the SAME training class, heading to the SAME location, and they actually ENJOYED talking to one another. (Gasp!)
Quickly they became friends along with a few other classmates and were able to spend a lot of time together during their time at the Academy - studying, working out, eating at local places, and the occasional shopping trip to the local Target because there were only so many options of how to spend your time when you're living on a military base...in a dorm room...with a curfew...
Once leaving training, they continued to chat, spend time together, and eventually...fell in love.
Later that year in June, Rebekah brought Matthew to her hometown of Belhaven, NC to attend as her plus one at the wedding of Marci Toppin (Bridesmaid) and Ethan Cochran! Rebekah had never brought anyone she was dating or seeing to her family before...and Matthew was cast into the deep southern end of the family as Rebekah focused mainly on her Maid of Honor duties for the wedding.
Matthew held his own against the swarm of family, friends, and kinfolks all at the ready to ask the hard questions....
When are you getting engaged? When are you getting married? When are you having babies? How could you live in all that snow up there in Buffalo?
Rebekah knew officially then, this guy may just be a keeper if he sticks around after a hectic weekend and he's able to navigate the questions?? She was officially falling...and he was too.
Rebekah realized she loved Matthew after he organized for her friends to surprise visit her in DC. He led them on tours of the sites and bottomless brunch followed by a night out before crashing back at the apartment exhausted. She told him later that night in August with the biggest smile on her face and no expectations.
Matthew realized he loved Rebekah after she arranged to visit Buffalo, New York to help him recover from hip surgery while seeing Buffalo for the fist time ever in her life as she had never been father north than Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (when she attended the 1989 Concert with sister & bridesmaid, Sarah Lee). Despite being in recovery, Matthew made a point to show Rebekah as much of the sites as they were able, such as Niagara Falls and Chefs Restaurant. While being dropped off at the airport, he told her after hugging her goodbye with tears in his eyes.
Matthew and Rebekah's relationship has withstood and survived the COVID pandemic, career changes, living together, medical procedures, substantial losses in each of their families, furry additions to the family, moving to the suburbs, buying a house and above all...Interstate 95 traffic. In fact, it thrived as they leaned on one another during every challenge and experience.
Which is why they decided to celebrate their love and commitment to one another surrounded by family, friends, and loved ones on September 1, 2024! They hope you join them on the banks of NC for the ceremony everyone has been waiting for...see you soon!
