Maddie grew up in Northern Virginia, and attended James Madison University where she received her Master’s in Education. After five years of teaching, the last two being through the pandemic, she realized she needed a change. Having lived in Virginia her whole life, she wanted to experience something new. She loves the beach, and had fallen in love with Charleston during a visit in 2018. She hoped to call the city home one day. At the end of the 2021 school year, she decided to leave her teaching job, and took the leap to move to Charleston. Traveling with only what would fit in her car, she had planned to just stay for the summer. However after landing a remote position, she decided to sign a lease and make the move permanent! Little did she know that just over a month after moving, she would meet her future husband - Matt!
Meanwhile, Matt grew up in Connecticut, and his time in Charleston began in 2013 when he decided to attend the College of Charleston. After graduating, he landed a job in none other than Northern Virginia – where Maddie lived! For nearly two years, Matt lived just down the road from Maddie, but their paths never crossed. It wasn’t until Matt’s job took him remote, that he made the choice to move back to Charleston in early 2021.
This led to a Tuesday night in downtown Charleston in July of 2021, where they both were at their favorite bar/restaurant, Henry’s on the Market. Matt and Maddie both had friends visiting, and found themselves having a drink up on the picturesque rooftop. They both kept exchanging glances at each other, and Matt’s friend Zach (and now best man) couldn’t help but notice, and urged the two groups to merge together for a drink. Maddie saw this as her opportunity to meet Matt, and walked over with her friends to join them. Matt and Maddie spent the rest of the night talking, exchanged numbers, and planned to hang out again soon! Luckily Matt is no fool, and messaged her a few days later to plan their first date. Shortly thereafter, they became inseparable and the rest, as they say, is history!
Now, it’s rare to find the two without each other, and they live together in their favorite city. They have an incredible group of friends, love to go to the beach, try out new restaurants, travel, and play pickleball! They truly feel so lucky. Their friends and family mean the absolute most to them, and they are so excited to get to celebrate their love story with all of you!
