Matt and Maddie each had a friend invite them to a lake house one weekend in the summer of 2020. They immediately began to hit it off, Maddie talking about her job as an oncology nurse and Matt talking about how he had gone through stage three cancer back in high school. The conversations lasted all night and morning this weekend as the two really got deep and connected with each-other. After the lake house weekend Matt added Maddie on Facebook but made no effort to reach out. Maddie thought Matt looked so familiar the whole time at the lake house but couldn’t put her finger on why… until 2 weeks after the lake house weekend. Maddie ran into Matt’s brother Kyle at a bar and realized that’s why Matt looked so familiar, she had previously met Kyle! If anyone knows the Schaaf boys you know all three of them have long brown locks and are over 6 feet tall with similar features so it was easy to confuse the three of them at first . Maddie then made the first move and sent a picture of Kyle to Matt on Facebook messenger and told Matt that is why she thought she had met him somewhere previously. Matt messaged Maddie back and the two continued to get closer over the next several months. Matt later asked Maddie to be his girlfriend on November 22, 2020 and the rest is history…


Matt took Maddie along with their dog Rowan on a walk on February 12, 2023 on a beautiful sunny day. This is where he popped the question and asked Maddie to marry him. It was such a beautiful intimate moment between the two and they felt nothing but joy as they were now fiancés!!


We can’t wait for you all to celebrate with us on 09/23/23, for us to be husband and wife, and for all of the many adventures to come in this new chapter for us!
