Our Story

The story of Macy and Matthew started by pure coincidence. She happened to move to Frisco, where he had grown up, while she was in middle school. Then he happened to get rezoned to the brand-new high school right down the street from her house. He didn’t even want to go to the new school at first, but that’s what makes this story so funny.

Unbeknownst to Macy at the time, her life would forever change one fateful day in July of 2014, just short of ten years before our eventual wedding. Macy would meet her future husband at the first ever Independence High School cross country summer workout. It was a weird day, with many people meeting for the first time as teammates, who had previously only known each other as competitors, and the younger freshmen like Macy, who were probably unaware of that dynamic until a later time.

It would be really cool if I could play up the importance of this date, but Macy and myself did not initially hit it off. She was an incoming freshman; I was going into my junior year. We had many mutual friends and were a part of the same cross country and track teams for the two years until I graduated (and even shared an AP Biology class despite our age gap), and then I went off to Texas A&M in the Fall of 2016.

Two years passed, and when it came time for Macy to make a decision on where she would attend school, I always assumed that she would go to A&M based on her family history. In fact, I vividly remember not talking to her much about the decision beforehand because I assumed that she would make the correct decision on her own. Of course, she ended up at Baylor, and would later correct that mistake.

She ended up coming to College Station several times that year to visit her best friends from high school; and that led to us meeting up several times as well. One time turned to two, and then texting, and we really started to enjoy each other’s company. I showed her around town, and she helped bring the best out of me academically.

From there, the rest is history. Once we started dating in September of 2019, we never looked back. It felt like we spent every waking moment with each other until I graduated and had to move further away. Between Dallas and Las Vegas, I was never particularly close by, but the emergence of a global pandemic actually helped us, as it made air travel much cheaper, and our duties became more remote-friendly. But when we finally had a chance to settle together in San Antonio, I could only ask when the soonest we could get there was. That brings me to the present, and I cannot wait to write the next paragraph of this story together with you <3 -Matt
