The Meet Cute

The couple likes to say they have three different stories of how they met. So, you get the pleasure of hearing them all. Rewind to Summer of 2018, Max had just graduated from high school. He had a joint grad party for him and one of his best friends, Nate. Brooke's mom is good friends with Nate's mom, so Brooke and Bonnie were invited to the graduation party. Brooke and Max supposedly met on that day but neither remember the other. The second story of meeting was through a virtual double date during the pandemic. Quarantine forced Brooke to move home during her final semester of college at the University of Richmond. She moved home only a few weeks after being baptized at a church in Richmond. The Richmond church reached out to the local sister church in Hershey and told them that a new disciple would be in the area. Heather Geeting told Max that this new girl, Brooke, was in the area and encouraged him to reach out. So, the two went on a virtual double date. After the date, Max was adamant about getting to know Brooke better. He really seemed to take a liking to her. Further along in 2020, the church's campus ministry was ready to get together, so they decided on a hike (in an effort to social distance outdoors). A group of 8 hiked up Pine Grove Furnace Trail. This was the first time Max and Brooke met in person – or at least the first time they remember meeting in person. Max was impressed that Brooke was the first one to make it to the top of the steep mountain. After that, he knew he had to get to know her more. And Brooke...well, she was oblivious and distracted. The Pursuit

Fast forward to Summer of 2021. It was a long year – half and full marathons were run, Max practiced talking to a girl he thought was cute, and both of them were single. Max was trying to decide whether or not he should start intentionally dating and pursuing Brooke. One day, he had a 45 minute drive home. He prayed before the drive, and told God, "If I am suppose to pursue Brooke, let me see her car during this drive home." Brooke drives a red Nissan Murano. During Max's drive, he saw 7 red Nissan Muranos! That was all Max needed to start his long and patient pursuit of Brooke. Brooke, on the other hand, needed a little bit more. She needed lots of advice, patience, girlfriend conversations, and godly discernment. In January of 2022, they officially called each other boyfriend and girlfriend. The photo below is the day Max asked her to be his girlfriend. Ask them about the day. It took a whole village to get Brooke out of the warm house and into the snow covered outdoors.

The Proposal

Fast forward to October 2023. Max planned a hike to Pine Grove Furnace again. Brooke was suspicious about the day but went along with the plan. Brooke and Max hiked up the mountain that day with 9 close friends (+3 friends who hiked up an hour earlier to hide at the top with Max's guitar). After taking in the view and lots of confusion by Brooke – thinking how could she have been so wrong about the potential proposal – the 3 friends came out of hiding to give Max his guitar. Max pulled Brooke aside, played his guitar, and sang a beautiful song. Brooke cried the whole time. Then, he got on his knee and asked "Will you marry me?". There was a head nod by Brooke and more tears.

Flying in? 

If you are flying in, the best option is to fly into Harrisburg International Airport. However, because this is a small airport, prices can be a little on the high side. Other options – further away –include Philadelphia International Airport or Baltimore International Thurgood Marshall Airport. Both are around 1.5-2 hours away from the Harrisburg area.

Overnight stay?

If you are planning on staying for a few days, we recommend you stay in the Hershey area. Both Brooke, Max, and extended families live in this area. This way, we can make the most of our time together. The venue, in Mount Joy, is about a 30 minute drive from Hershey. You can stay at the Inn of our wedding venue. Just note the venue is in an isolated area and a few miles from the hustle and bustle of activities. Find suggested accommodations below.
