Our Wedding

Troy and Maya met December 13th 2019 l while attending St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Both out with friends celebrating the end of another semester, they were introduced through a mutual friend while at Pipers Pub. After returning from the Christmas break, they reconnected and began dating, making it official January 31, 2020. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, with the university sending students home, Troy and Maya maintained a long-distance relationship before Maya went to Ontario for the summer. The two worked at Flame + Smith restaurant in Prince Edward County together as server assistants. Maya returned to Nova Scotia to complete her final year of nursing school, with the two visiting each other frequently throughout that year. Troy moved to Bridgewater, Nova Scotia in May 2021. At that time he was working from home and Maya began working at the South Shore Regional Hospital. Planning to move back to Toronto in August 2023, they began looking for jobs in the late summer of 2022, and Troy was offered a position at Bank of America with a November 2022 start. Maya secured a position at Michael Garron’s Family Birthing Centre, and they moved across the country with two cats in tow. Since moving to Toronto, they have added Daisy, the golden retriever, to their little family. Troy proposed October 25 2024 in their home, and had reservations at Cluny afterwards to celebrate.

Both the wedding ceremony and reception venues are located in Toronto Distillery District- and easily accessible area of east downtown Toronto. Below are linked several of the closest hotels. The closest domestic airport is Billy Bishop Airport in downtown Toronto. The closest international airport is Toronto Pearson in Mississauga. The Toronto transit system, known as the TTC, has a comprehensive variety of buses, streetcars, subways, and train systems which can assist in transport from airport, to hotel, to venue, etc. The TTC system takes cash, visa tap, and TTC prepaid cards. Taxis and app based transport, like Uber or Lyft, are widely available throughout the city as well.

Wedding Day Timeline

Have some free time on your hands before the ceremony or reception but want to stay close? The distillery district offers a wide variety of shops and galleries. Known for the bespoke atmosphere in heritage building sites, the distillery district is a vibrant foot traffic only area. Explore the art galleries and outdoor statues, stop by one of the many bakeries for a croissant and a coffee, grab lunch and a drink at one of the many restaurants and distilleries along the path, or simply do some window shopping!

Toronto’s downtown core contains many of the main tourist attractions; the CN Tower, Ripley’s aquarium, the ROM, the AGO, Roger’s Centre, the Eaton centre, Dundas square, the list goes on! 

The Downtown Core

Easily accessible by public transport, the Leslieville/Riverside/Riverdale communities provide a vibrant look into Toronto’s East End. With beautiful parks and outdoor attractions, as well as a variety of bakeries and hipster restaurants. Some fun activities include sitting in Riverdale Park looking at the city skyline with a coffee and snack from Roosters, having brunch with a latte bowl (yes, latte BOWL) at Bonjour Brioche, or hitting up any of the restaurants on Queen st.

The East End

Despite lacking oceanfront beaches in Toronto, the Lake Ontario beaches more than make up for it. In the Beach neighborhood, there are many connected beaches complete with volleyball courts, restaurants, playgrounds, and boardwalk.

It’s a quick seven minute walk from the ceremony venue to the reception.   Heading south (right) from the front of Enoch Turner, continue down Trinity Street, across three streets, until you reach Tank House Lane. Continue down Tank House Lane (left turn) until you reach Cluny Bistro and Boulangerie on your right, across the street from Soulpepper Theatre.     The reception will be hosted in the private dining room at the back of Clunys.
