Maya & Derrick first met during their freshman year at Liberty University. Derrick had a few good friends who knew of Maya & Maya had a few good friends who knew of Derrick. One could ask the question, how did we never cross paths? Well, after a few interactions in passing (like one tailgate where Derrick apparently talked to everyone there but Maya) & our friends (you know who you are) & realizing they were both single, they got to thinking.

Soon enough our friend group had created a mission to get us together. Early into second semester of freshman year, they set up a group hike where Maya & Derrick talked for the first time. From there it was just awkward interactions in passing, yet both of them secretly wanted to get to know each other. A week later our friends hosted a game night, with their secret mission still a go. They had been encouraging Derrick to ask for her number, so Derrick got to thinking; what is a creative way to ask for her number? He then decided to offer to teach her how to play euchre & said "well if I'm going to teach you Euchre I have to tell you where... so can I have your number?" After a milisecond of silence, which to Derrick felt like a lifetime, she graciously gave him her number. It felt to Derrick like he had won the Super Bowl.

From there, the two hung out everyday over the course of the week following, which led to them going on a hike together as friends, & returing as a couple. So, on that day, February 4, 2023 at 6:44 PM, Maya & Derrick began their forever together, whether they realized it or not. Since that day, God has been nothing but kind and is now graciously allowing them to make this covenant of marriage before Him. We hope you will be able to join us on this special day!
