Maya and Michael met in middle school in Kennesaw, Ga. They shared mutual friends and soon became friends themselves. After years of being just friends, Michael decided he was ready to take the next step; asking Maya out on a date. When she agreed, they had their first date at a bowling alley followed by pizza at Marietta Pizza Company in Marietta Square. A couple dates later, they made it official when Michael asked Maya to be his girlfriend between classes during their junior year of high school. They've been together ever since, supporting each other through volleyball tournaments, wrestling matches, college, and various military trainings.

To celebrate their relationship reaching the six year mark, Michael decided to recreate their first date. After a few rounds of bowling, they returned to Marietta Square to enjoy a few slices of pizza. When Maya questioned Michael on why he seemed to be suspiciously eyeing the center of the square, he explained it was because he wanted to "take pictures" under the gazebo. It was Easter weekend and the weather was nice so of course the square was filled with people enjoying the day. Following their meal, they waited as another family finished taking pictures in the gazebo. When it was clear, Michael led Maya up the steps and took of few pictures of her before getting on one knee and presenting her with a ring. As you can guess, she absolutely said yes!

The moment was made perfect by a performer who happened to be playing music only a few feet away and the surprise of her family and a few close friends popping up after sneaking through the square to celebrate the newly engaged couple.
