As cliche as it may seem, a ride aboard one of New Orleans’ historic streetcars is the perfect way to sit back, relax and explore the city on a budget.- The oldest continuously operating streetcar line in the world is the St. Charles Avenue line in New Orleans, which opened in 1835. Initially, it ran on steam power, later switching to electricity. The line runs from Canal Street all the way to the end of St. Charles Avenue at South Carrollton Avenue, then out South Carrollton Avenue to its terminal at Carrollton and Claiborne.
