Mayra’s Story

I moved to Savannah in August 2023 for work and a few weeks back, I had downloaded the Facebook dating app. Yes, for those of you that don’t know, Facebook has a dating app lol we swiped right the first week I got there. It took us about 2 weeks to go on our first date. I honestly thought he didn’t like me and he was telling his family that the date went “well” lol we kept talking and went on a 2nd date, 3rd date, etc. I was only supposed to be in SAV for 3 months but ended up staying 9 months 🤣 he asked me to be his girlfriend at the end of my first 3 month contract and it somehow worked out with work and I was able to sign 2 more contracts over there. At the end of my last contract, we got a dog named Boston 💙 I eventually moved back to Simpsonville in June 2024 and he moved to Columbia. A few months later he moved to SVL too and a week or so later he proposed! I truly believe that God had a plan for me and it was to go outside of everything I’ve ever known & make me feel uncomfortable only to find my now fiancé ♥️ I know that I didn’t go to Savannah to find a better job opportunity ; I was sent there to find two boys and bring them back home!

Roberto’s story

My weekends used to consist of stoping by the liquor store late Friday's after work and picking up a new bottle to try along with whatever I was in the mood to cook. That was my life, work and being at home with family. Nothing much outside of that. During the week I’d scroll on social media and get on those little dating apps with no real intention of actually going on any dates, just looking for a distraction outside of work. Until one Tuesday night I swiped right (on the facebook dating of all things 😂) and matched with this girl who’s bio said she wanted to find a brewery in Savannah. Bingo! That sounded interesting but yet again I had no plans of really going with her, just looking for recommendations, not knowing she had just arrived to Savannah! Well, we kept talking. She gave me her number and I decided to text her because what could I lose right? Talking led to setting up a date which at the time didn’t seem like a big deal to me as I was always busy at work and didn’t really think of the date we set approaching until the day of! I tried to stay later at work that day and even thought about canceling on her. I don’t know if it was me being nervous to go out of my comfort zone or daily/weekly routine. I finally built up the courage and got ready and started driving over to pick her up. We went to River street and got a few drinks. We walked around and made a few jokes and laughed. Everything was going great! Or, well, it was in my mind anyway 😂 the date ended up getting cut short but overall I had enjoyed it. Turns out she thought I wasn’t really into her and on the other hand I thought it went better than I expected lol. Fast forward a few weeks after that first date and now the “bottle of liquor” I was passing by to pick up was her 🥰 I asked her to be my girlfriend eventually and I told her about how I almost cancelled the first date but how glad I was I didn’t! Now I’m the one that moved out of town where I lived and came over to her town where she came back. She went to Savannah as a travel tech for what she thought was just 3 months but ended up going to find me. So it was MY turn to follow her back to Simpsonville where now (1 year later) I can say that, that right swipe and going on that date was the best decision I could’ve made because now she is my fiancée ❤️
