As Danny loves to point out, their relationship started with McAuley telling a teeny-tiny little lie, but the fib was worth it in the end.

Danny and McAuley met on the dating app, Hinge. It was March 2021 and McAuley moved home to Westlake Village during the pandemic. When the world started to open up again, she decided to try out the apps. Knowing she was going to move back to LA eventually, she placed her location as Brentwood, Los Angeles which was where she lived for years before the pandemic began.

After some small talk and texting back and forth, they agreed to meet up in Santa Monica at a restaurant called Lanea. McAuley (driving down from Westlake Village and getting into LA traffic) was running a few minutes late. Danny was waiting at a table outside when McAuley walked up to him. As Danny later told McAuley, she took his breath away because she looked even better than her profile pictures.

Hours passed and after a night of margaritas, chips and guacamole, and endless conversation, they said their goodbyes and went back to their respective corners of LA. McAuley stopped by her sister's house in West LA and told Maggie and Matt all about the great date she had just been on. Seeing the excitement in McAuley's face, Maggie asked if McAuley had texted Danny yet to say how much fun she had had. At that exact moment, Danny texted McAuley! Maggie said, "You need to go on another date with this guy," grabbed McAuley's phone and started replying for her --
