McKayla and Andrew met their freshman year of college at Winona State University. McKayla happened to be a friend of Andrews roommate's girlfriend. They became better friends as time advanced through sarcastic snapchats back and forth. Andrew eventually decided he had some feelings for McKayla. It took some courage (and another guy making a move) for him to come forth on his feelings. On November 3rd, 2016, he decided to ask her out. McKayla, needing some encouragement from her friend, decided she would go out with him. In the end, they both made the right choice.

Their relationship grew from their many study sessions (well McKayla studied and Andrew sat with her), sarcastic banters, board game nights, walks around Lake Winona, and just spending quality time with each other. Both of them graduated from Winona State University, with McKayla earning a degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology and Allied Health, while Andrew pursued Computer Science.

In 2021, McKayla made the decision to further her education by relocating to Vermillion, South Dakota, to pursue a degree in Occupational Therapy. Andrew, fully committed to their relationship and eager to explore new opportunities, decided to embrace the remote work policy and accompanied her to Vermillion.

Andrew's proposal took place on June 17th, 2023, precisely at 3:49 PM, against the breathtaking backdrop of Glacier National Park, specifically at the end of Avalanche Lake (coordinates 48.659397, -113.790325). McKayla, at the time, was engaged in fieldwork for her program in Sandpoint, Idaho. Andrew seized the opportunity to surprise her during his visit (which was not a surprise for McKayla).

Their decision to visit Glacier National Park was made during their first weekend together. Despite the challenging weather conditions that day, with cold temperatures and unfriendly roads, She said YES, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their journey together.

McKayla is proudly going by Dr. McKayla Becker having completing her doctorate in Occupational Therapy. She has passed her board exam and is working at Metro Therapy which is outpatient pediatric clinic. Meanwhile, Andrew is employed at Boston Scientific as a Senior Full Stack Engineer and is a proud homeowner in Maple Grove, MN.

Despite not yet living together under the same roof, they prioritize spending time together, seizing every opportunity to see each other, whether it's sharing meals, thrifting, playing a competitive board game with each other's respective family, going for walks, or simply enjoying each other's company. Both of them fit well with each respective families, Andy having a knack of knowing McKayla’s family so well in board games, and McKayla scoring the win in Andrew’s family's easter competition. Their bond remains strong, characterized by frequent communication and unwavering support for one another's endeavors. They consider each other their best friends which helps lay the foundation for a future filled with shared dreams and cherished moments.
