Derek:
I was in process of self-growth and taking a course of identification on who I was. I was living in the moment and embracing my time with close friends and family. One mantra that I've stood by for the majority of my life is "Capitalize on opportunity.".
Now I have a large interest in different content creators (Ask Meagan.. She hates how much YouTube I watch), and one creator had a reoccurring skit on his show. I won't bore you with the details but in short he's quirky and introduces himself to women on college campuses in funny ways. Yes.... He uses pick up lines on unsuspecting bystanders.
Well on this one fateful evening, in early January of 2018, I came out to support a good friend of mine at the bar as well as celebrate a best friends birthday. I was standing up next to my good friend in the DJ booth, chit chatting, having a drink, enjoying life when I noticed her. More-so, This beautiful girl stood out against everyone in this crowded space. I was intrigued, enamored, and dare I say infatuated. I told my friend. "I'm going to go talk to that girl. Wish me Luck." and went off on a mission.
Well... Me and all of my infinite wisdom decided to pull a trick out in this YouTube stars' handbook. I used a pick up line, in the middle of crowded bar, to this woman who was and still is very out of my league and she didn't run away or cry or even cringe...
She actually responded positively, which is insane because in hindsight... the pick up line was pretty bad.
but hey.. almost 2 years later and she told me she would spend the rest of her life with me.
Meagan:
You know how on movies they always talk about love at first sight? I could not roll my eyes hard enough at the thought. Then it happened. It LITERALLY happened to me. It was the craziest thing. I saw him from across the room, and my jaw hit the floor. I don’t really remember much else (Other than asking my friend if she knew who he was.). He had a girlfriend (of course) and I was so heartbroken because I KNEW he was my soulmate.
Every single time I saw him out, it was from across the room because I just always knew he was there. So I would SPRINT across the room (I’m not a runner, but you can bet I was when Derek was in the room) through all the people to ask him to play Blank Space for me. Yes, the Taylor Swift song about her being a nightmare dressed like a daydream. Sorry Derek, but that should’ve been your first clue about who I was. He would roll his eyes and walk away. Until FINALLY one night (literally the night I said to myself that I was giving up because he has zero interest in me and I keep making an idiot out of myself), he finally asked for not my number, but my Snapchat (eye roll). Not my first choice, but I was taking whatever I could get.
This was the beginning of something that was much bigger than anything we both imagined. We've each grown so much over the course of our relationship. We've learned what it means to be compassionate, patient, loving, and forgiving. We are committed to each other and the pursuit of our future together alongside each and every one of you.
Thank you for being a part of our lives and thank you for being a part of our Happily Ever After.
