We met in Fort Lauderdale at each of our first "real" jobs after college, about 2 years after we both started working there. Our relationship as office friends started quickly from having little chats after leaving the break room to starting a Mario Kart war that will never end. Little did I know, a crush was starting to brew. Unfortunately, we didn't have a lot of time to get to know each other because we hung around with different crowds and, next thing you know, Corbin gets offered a promotion which would relocate him to Houston, Texas in July of 2015.
It wasn't until March of 2016 when we started talking again as I was trying to sell a ticket to a music festival in Florida that I knew Corbin was going to attend. As we started to chat more, Corbin noted that a few of his close friends, still living in Fort Lauderdale, would be coming to see him just a month later in April. He wasted no time and was quick to say: "since you're getting some money back on that concert ticket, why don't you use that to come see me with everyone?" All it took was a quick price check and I was booked within days to join everyone in Houston. That's when it all began...
To no surprise, we hit it off right away, swapping stories and getting right back into our video game smack talk. Our connection intensified as the two of us stayed up late talking and singing while our friends were asleep. It wasn't until the last day that we both confirmed our feelings as we hung around one of our now favorite breweries. After playing a game of ring toss, I wrapped my arms around Corbin as tight as I could and he kissed the top of my head and hugged me back just as tightly.
It was hard to leave the next day and became increasingly hard to be apart as we continued to talk all day, every day, sometimes until 4:00 in the morning. These late nights launched us into our first year together which meant the beginning of a long distance relationship. At first, we saw each other once per month then made every effort we could to see each other every 3 weeks, at the longest. As our relationship grew, we realized, one of us was going to have to move. Since Corbin was still forming his professional foundation in Houston and I wanted to move out of South Florida, it was an easy decision for me to pack up and head to a new city.
In June of 2017, Corbin flew down to Florida and hopped in the car with me while my amazing parents drove the U-Haul over 1,000 miles to my new apartment. We decided not to move in together right away so that we could ease into no longer having to get on a plane to see each other. A few months later, we moved in together and started to talk about the next step for us... marriage.
After 2 weeks of either one of us traveling for work, we felt that we really needed to take a weekend getaway with our little pup to Austin for a hike. This was something we had been talking about for some time, so I didn't think much of it as we packed everything you would need for a post-hike, romantic picnic basket filled with wine, cheese, and cinnamon almonds. After we finished our hike, we walked over to the cliff side which had a beautiful view of the lake, the perfect setting for Corbin's proposal... now we all know how that turned out. :-)
The place where our love began to brew is called Karbach Brewery, near downtown Houston. As a final thank you for sharing in our special day, and one last chance to get everyone together, we would like to invite you to have a beer with us at this place where our story first began. First 100 beers are on us! Please check the "Things to Do" section of our website, under Details, for additional information.
All our love, Meagan & Corbin
