Our Wedding

Matt and Meagan met while working at a tiny college access nonprofit in SF, where they bonded over the shared trauma of living on subsistence salaries in the Bay Area and sharing a too-small office with their coworker who would detain them daily for hours with tales of his very cute kids. Don't worry, there was no office scandal.

The meet

After they both left their jobs in search of better pay, they became good friends. After a series of hangouts that felt increasingly more like dates, they realized there was a spark.... only a few weeks before Meagan was set to start a new job in Mexico.

The start

And so, unexpectedly, they found themselves in a long distance relationship. They got to fall in love with and in Mexico. Their first year was a whirlwind of archeological and architectural marvels, natural wonders, mariachi serenades, plus infinite tacos and micheladas.

The distance year

Realizing this was becoming something more serious, Meagan moved back to Bay. They were thrilled to get to experience daily life together in SF's Mission neighborhood until suddenly, they found themselves in lockdown in an apartment of 6. They made the most of this weird time, from roommate D&amp;D campaigns, to online trivia with friends around the world, to Matt growing his hair out for the very last time. Eventually, they moved into their own apartment in Oakland and embraced a new normal, but realized if settling down was to ever be in the future, they needed to look beyond the Bay.

The pandemic 

And so, with new remote jobs, they departed on a whirlwind venture that took them across the US and back to Mexico, while they contemplated where they wanted to land.

The nomad phase

They decided Seattle was a worthwhile place to land for a while, and so they spent a year there. Aside from soaking in the beauty of the PNW, their biggest accomplishment during this time was welcoming their pride and joy, Tux, to the family.

The pup

These days, Matt and Meagan have settled down in DC. They spend their days laughing at Tux, their ever sassy source of entertainment, finding the latest weird television show to obsess over, trying NYTimes cooking recipes, and most recently, learning to play pickleball. From all their wandering, they have friends and family scattered all over the map, so theyre thrilled to celebrate this new chapter with all of you, for one weekend only, in the same place!

We recommend that you book flights into Washington Dulles airport, which is the closest airport to the venue and our hotel blocks in Ashburn and Leesburg, VA. Flying into Ronald Reagan International Airport is also an option, but will take you slightly longer. Brave souls are welcome to fly into BWI, but expect a traffic-filled trek. If you plan to arrive the day of the wedding, please account for possible heavy traffic.

Flights 

We will have shuttles available from both of our hotel sites in Ashburn and Leesburg to/from the wedding venue on the big day. The shuttle will depart from Aloft Ashburn- Airport North at 2:15 and from Best Western- Leesburg at 2:45. We recommend staying in Ashburn if you desire to travel car-free, as there is a complementary shuttle from Dulles airport and a metro station available 1 mi from the hotel that can take you into Washington, DC on the Silver line (albeit on a 1 hr+ metro ride). Ride sharing services are also available in the area, but can be spendy. If you desire optimal flexibility for touring and getting around, renting a car is the way to go.

DC advisory

The government shutdown, if still in effect, may mean some of the museums and sites you plan to visit are closed- particularly if the Smithsonians are on your list. We recommend checking websites for sites you plan to visit to confirm if they are open. If they are open, please also note that some like the Air and Space Museum and the African American History Museum require timed entry passes, which are free, but should be booked in advance. Please also be aware there is an increased presence of law enforcement in the city and you may encounter checkpoints while driving. We recommend checking the r/washingtonDC Checkpoint and sighting megathread to see if any areas you plan on visiting are impacted.

If the Smithsonians are still closed, the Spy Museum is privately managed and is a great time. Learn about the history of espionage while pretending to be a spy yourself!

Activities near Leesburg

This historic area is a wonderful small town to explore not too far outside of Leesburg. Meagan's favorite regional hike is the Maryland Heights trail. If you're up for getting out on the river, check out River Riders for rentals.

Harpers Ferry National Historical Park

Close to Leesburg, the corn maze at Great Country Farms is one of our favorite fall activities. During the day, there are lots of family friendly activities- hay rides, pig races, big slides. At night, the corn maze is adults only- and it's genuinely impressive. Don't repeat our mistakes: they change the map each year and the map shown will not- I repeat, will not- lead you in the right direction.
