What's with this whole two-day thing?
For both of us, one of the most important things over the wedding weekend is to spend quality time with people. Weddings are one of the few occasions that brings together family and friends seldom seen. To this end, we have decided to host two events to which everyone is invited: the wedding ceremony and reception on Saturday Jun 11 and a brunch celebration the following morning on Sunday Jun 12. Our hope is that after the big hoorah of our wedding day, we will be able to relax and enjoy everyone's company on Sunday; we hope that you will, too.

Why a dessert reception rather than a dinner reception?
First off, we have some wonderful desserts lined up--something for everyone, we hope--and who doesn't love dessert? ;)
More seriously, there are two further reasons:
First, we want to engender an environment where people are able to register and engage with one another in the unique occasion of a wedding: catching up with one another, sharing jokes and stories, and enjoying each other's company. We will not get to be a part of every conversation or laugh at every joke or enjoy every story, but this is how we want to celebrate, not only our marriage, but also and especially so our families. We believe that opting for a dessert reception absolves the "entertainment" reflex of weddings, it makes people feel less anchored to their chairs and more prone to engaging with more people, it lightens the mood and expectations, and it allows us to not have to worry as much about not being able to eat!
Second, a dessert reception means people are eating dinner beforehand. This affords people the opportunity to "group up," so to speak--for extended families to have dinner together as they would had they visited one another in their own spaces.
These values are important to us and we think the dessert reception best captures our goals for celebrating our wedding and our family values of quality time and storytelling.
