Fly into Cancun International Airport

Please fly into Cancun International Airport. This is the closest airport to the island of Isla Mujeres, which is a 20 minute ferry ride off the shore of Cancun.

Get Pesos

Taxis only take cash and a lot of restaurants only take peso. We recommend getting pesos at the airport or ferry station. At the airport, the ATM is located outside near the bathrooms in front or Air Margaritaville (this is if you are flying into Terminal 2). At the ferry station (before getting on the boat to Isla Mujeres) the ATMs are located near where the taxis drop you off, before where you walk down the slope to the boat. There are also ATMs at the marina when you arrive at Isla Mujeres. You can also go to your bank before traveling to convert USD to Peso. If you are staying at a hotel, your hotel should have an ATM. There are also ATMs at the bank on the north side of the island as well as Chedraui, the supermarket.

Transfer to Ferry Station

We recommend booking an airport transform through CARM Transfers. These are private vans with a driver that will wait for you outside the airport (near the taxis), with a sign showing your name. They will track your flight information and will be able to accommodate if your flight is delayed. Taxis are also available at the airport, although arranging a transfer is the best way to know exactly what you will pay. Taxis are safe but are more expensive.

Through CARM, you will be able to book your round trip transfer to the ferry station and back from the ferry station on the day you leave. CARM can also purchase your UltraMar Ferry tickets for you. CARM will track your flight and will still pick you up if you are delayed. They will send you a very detailed email after booking with information on where to find them at the airport. They are also very responsive via email to any questions.

Ferry ride to Isla Mujeres

Please take the UltraMar ferry from Puerto Juarez to Isla Mujeres. It is highly recommended to purchase your tickets to/from the island ahead of time, through the website below. You will select the origin as Cancun - Puerto Juarez and the destination as Isla Mujeres. The ticket you purchase will be good for use any time on the selected date. This is the same type of ticket that CARM will purchase for you, if you decided to book through them.

The ferry will leave Puerto Juarez in 30 minute increments from 5:30am to 11:00pm. The ferry will leave Isla Mujeres for Cancun in 30 minute increments from 6:00am to 12:00am.

The ferry process very simple. The boats at this ferry station only go to Isla Mujeres. You show your ticket, board the boat, take a 20 minute boat ride, and you are dropped off right in the main town of Isla Mujeres!

Take A Taxi Or Rent A Golf Cart

If you chose to take a taxi from the ferry station to your hotel, you can easily get a taxi after exiting the ferry. The ferry is directly next door to the taxi stand. As you exit onto the street, you can either walk next door (to the left) and get a taxi from the stand, or there is typically a guy in a red shirt outside the ferry station calling taxi’s for people. Taxis ONLY TAKE CASH- peso or USD.

Most tourists visiting Isla Mujeres rent a golf cart to get around the small island. If you are adventurous and plan to explore, we highly recommend renting a golf cart for your group, as this is the easiest and most convenient way to see everything Isla has to offer! However, you will need to be comfortable driving a cart on the road with taxis and scooters. You simply need to keep to the right and let them pass you, as well as signal your turns with your hands. The speed limit on the main roads are low and there are frequent speed bumps/lots of carts.

The golf cart rental companies are conveniently located near the ferry station. You can rent a cart and pick it up once arriving to drive to your hotel, or taxi your bags to hotel and pick up the golf cart later.

If you rent a cart, we recommend saving the taxi stand phone number, or a taxi drivers number, or your hotels phone number in your phone in the off chance you have problems with your cart. You can ask your Airbnb host for the number of a taxi driver they recommend, or use the taxi stand number of +529985808574

DO NOT RENT FROM PRISMA

Ciros Carts - these are known to be the best on the island. Their carts are newer and well maintained. If possible we recommend renting from this place. Ask them to meet you with the cart at the ferry station. Message them on Facebook or call/ WhatsApp 52-998-877-0568

The location is a little hard to find if you use the map, as it is on a walking street. If you book this, let us know and we will send you a screen shot of exactly where it is. Once you have this, you won’t have a problem finding it.

**Note: The golf cart rental business will hold the ID of whoever reserves the golf cart. This is normal, and it is always returned. Restaurants on the island/grocery stores do not ID for alcohol (drinking age in Mexico is 16+), so you wont need your ID during your stay.**

do i need to rent a golf cart?

If you are staying at a hotel and plan to spend most of your time relaxing on the premises, then you likely do not not need a golf cart. If you want to explore the island and plan to go out frequently, then we recommend renting a golf cart for convenience!

If you do not to rent a golf cart, you will need to use taxis to get around the island. There will be many taxis outside of the ferry station to take to your hotel, and your hotel can easily call a taxi for you for transportation to our events and anything you plan to do on your own. There will also be taxis available at all events we host (be sure to carry pesos on you to pay for taxis, as they do not accept card).

If you are planning to use taxis as your primary form of transportation, we recommend asking your hotel how to get a taxi back from your destination. Depending on where you dine, some restaurants will call a taxi for you (typically nicer restaurants). Your hotel should be able to tell if your destination will have plenty of taxis available (beach clubs, restaurants on the north side of the island), or if they will need to help you arrange for a ride back.

There is no uber/lyft on the island.

Where to stay

We love to stay at Airbnb and VRBOs while on the island. There are many options from 1 bedroom condos to 5 bedroom beach houses. As always, when traveling abroad, look for properties that have reviews to ensure you are booking a real property. There are also many hotel options on the island.

You can stay anywhere on the island, as it is a 10 minute taxi ride (20 minute golf cart ride) from the north point to the south point, so our wedding events will be accessible no matter where you stay. Because of this, we do not have any formal hotel blocks, as we know our guests have many options and different preferences on where they want to stay!

South Side:

We will be staying on the south side of the island. We prefer to stay on this side as it is quieter and less touristy. Our wedding ceremony and reception will be on the south side of the island, as well.

North Side

The north side of the island is where the ferry brings you in. It is packed with hotels, restaurants, bars, and beach clubs all within walking distance. However, it is much busier and you are "in the thick of it." Our welcome cocktail reception will be on the north side of the island.
