I met Carlos when I was least expecting it. It was the Sunday before the Superbowl in 2016 when he decided to message me on Twitter. I had no idea who he was, but I was delighted to find out that we went to the same high school. He also seemed shocked to find out that we went to the same school, which I came to find out later was a complete lie. He had seen me at school before he decided to message me. After that initial message, we talked almost every day for 5 months. He became my best friend and someone I could share anything with. After the first phone call, as cliché and cheesy as it may sound, I knew I loved him. I decided I wanted him to meet my family. My little brother’s birthday party was coming up and I thought it would be the perfect occasion for him to meet everyone. We had a great time and although he was shy, everyone seemed to like him. After that birthday party, he handed me a letter. He wrote out these riddles and the answer to each riddle was a part of a question. It was the sweetest and most thoughtful way he could have asked me to be his girlfriend. June 4, 2016, will always hold a special place in my heart. Fast forward 7 years and 20 days, he asked me to be his wife. For the last 8 years, we have grown up together, pursued Jesus together, and fallen more in love. Our relationship has withstood a pandemic, college, and long-distance. I am certain, that whatever life brings, I want to go through it with Carlos next to me. - Megan
Imagine this: I was walking across the street with a friend one day in high school and I spot a short blonde with a radiant smile. In that next moment I leaned over to my friend telling him “That girl is so pretty”, and me being an introvert did nothing about it until I came across her Instagram through a mutual friend’s post (I know…sort of cringe lol). As the kids would say I “slid into her DMs” and thank goodness she thought I was funny, or I wouldn’t be writing this right now. The first memorable moment I can remember between us was when I was over at my grandma’s house watching the super bowl in 2016 and it felt as if I was glued to my phone and had a permanent smile on my face because I just really enjoyed the fact, I was talking to her even if it was just through the phone. If we fast-forward to June 3rd, 2016, we will see me on a mission and the mission was to create the best card/questionnaire to ask Megan to be my girlfriend. On that day, I was filled with excitement, so much so that I recruited my mom to help provide ideas for the card and we spent the whole afternoon watching James Dean movies and perfecting the card. The next day June 4th, 2016 was a big day, we had her brothers birthday party and I had an important question to ask. As we were leaving the party, we met back at her car and when I gave her the card and popped the question. To my genuine surprise she said yes. It was a good day. If we fast-forward again to the year 2023, we took our first solo trip to a familiar place, Cloudcroft, New Mexico and we have been plenty of times but being there just to two of us was very special to me. It was as if I experienced the beauty of that small town again for the first time. There are many more great memories that came to mind, and instead of writing them down for you animals to read I will just rejoice in the memories from the past and be ready to experience the ones that are to yet come. Peace out! - Carlos
