Our Wedding

"HOLY SHIT! I am definitely going to miss my flight," I thought to myself, as I sprinted up to the long security line. 

 After a harrowing drive to the airport, which included a turn around because I left my contacts at home (#classic) and a car accident one mile from the airport, where we were side swiped by a student driver, I was cutting it closer than I usually did. I ripped off my shoes and threw my bag on&nbsp;the conveyor belt. I rushed to the other side to grab my belongings. 



"Ma'am," began the airport security guard, PLEASE NOT NOW I silently/scream begged, "Do you have several bottles of liquids in your bag and two pounds of change in your bag?" he asked. 



In all my haste, I had forgotten that I switched out my usual carry on bag. Instead of having my toiletries, books, and a tablet, I had loaded the bag up with several bottles of liquor (FOR CHRISTMAS PRESENTS, PEOPLE, give me a break!)&nbsp; I have no excuse for the two pounds of change. I grabbed my bag, ran back to check in, paid the 50 dollar second bag fee (#thanksunited, it was a really small bag by the way, do you have no way of differentiating with your fees?! Come onnn!) and sprinted back through the security line.&nbsp; I grabbed my dainty coin purse and booked it for the gate.&nbsp; I was one of the last people on the plane. 



 Sweating profusely due to hefting 2 lbs of change around and partially blind with my glasses askew, I began to search for my seat. I glanced up at the number and down at the person sitting in my aisle and began to sweat even more because I had just made eye contact with the hottest guy.&nbsp; It was only then, did I realize that I strongly resembled a homeless person. (Note to self: dress better for travel) 



"Please be as weird as me," I silently prayed to the universe. I sat down next to said hot man, he has asked to remain anonymous, but we will call him "Jared" for stories sake. I immediately began to tell him my journey to the airport story, which took up all 8 hours of the flight. When we landed, he got up oddly fast and went to catch his next flight.&nbsp; We never saw each other again. JUST KIDDING! 



Jare and I hit it off right away, finding out that we had a WEIRD amount in common.&nbsp; I was carrying my Radford blanket and he informed me he went to Virginia Tech, a little school down the road from Radford.&nbsp;&nbsp;You've probably never heard of it, Radford tends to outshine it's neighbor, it might not seem fair, but that's just the way it is.&nbsp; Jared was on his way home to visit his family in Fredericksburg.&nbsp;&nbsp;His Dad works at Mary Washington, where my sister went to school. We both love Soup and Taco, in downtown Fred. As soon as he said he loved tacos, I pretty much thought, he might be the one.&nbsp;

Jared had been transferred out to Oahu in July 2013, the same year and month I arrived on Maui. He had just returned from a deployment, which explained how pale he was, I mean, you looked great, Jarebear! We were both in a rush to get home, Jared because he had been deployed underwater for 6 months and hadn't seen his family in over a year, and me, because my parents were throwing their annual Christmas party and I had some heavy drinking with my neighbors to partake in. Basically, they were equally&nbsp;important reasons, as I would later have to explain to the United Customer Service.



 We found out we were on our next flight together, but it was going to be a close call making it. We were separated in the jumble of people rushing to their connecting flights. I was on the conveyor belt for lazy people who don't want to walk, when I saw Jared, dejected, walking back on solid ground. "Did the flight leave?" I asked/screeched. 



"We just missed it, I'm heading to the customer service counter," Jared said. I was stuck on the conveyor belt, we slowly moved apart in different directions. We never saw each other again.



 SIKE! I pushed over several young children and a couple of elderly folk&nbsp;and ran over to the costumer service line. My flight was rerouted and I walked over to my new gate, lo and behold, Jared was on my same flight! We joked about getting stuck sitting next to a screaming child. I did. He sat next to a pleasant woman who tried to teach him how to knit. I think it was karma for pushing people over earlier.



 Our plane was delayed on the tarmac, and with a child screaming in my ears, I realized with horror that we were going to miss our next flight. Other people began to realize the same thing and a full blown riot broke out. The cute woman knitting, stabbed several people with her knitting needles (or whatever they're called). It was bloody and gruesome. I will never be able to un see the violence that day. None of that happened, but we were on a United flight so you know it could have. 



 We landed in Houston, having already missed our connecting flight and walked over to the costumer service line together (Did you get that part...TOGETHER, this is when things really heated up).

 "I'm sorry you have to see my like this," I said to Jared in semi fake hysteria/real hysteria because I knew the Christmas party had started, "but I am going to have to get really angry with costumer service." 



"Hi ma'am, how can I help you?"



"Hi. (when you're angry and want to prove a point, always speak as if you are ending your sentence with periods, it really seems to work) This is the SECOND (raise your voice at key moments) time we have missed our connecting flights, due to no fault of our own (always leave out everything that is your fault). Jared has not seen his family in over a YEAR, my family is throwing a Christmas party tonight that I NEED to get back for. This is ridiculous!!!"



 "Here's a voucher for the food court. Sorry for the inconvenience. Is there anything else I can help you with?" "



Yes, we want to sit together on the next flight," I slipped in slyly. Try getting away from me now.



 "What did you say?" asked Jared. 



"NOTHING! We really showed them, those suckers gave us a food voucher for...SEVEN DOLLARS AND THIRTEEN CENTS AND CANNOT BE USED ON ALCOHOL?! WHAT THE F-"



 Ultimately, we decided to go to the bar anyway because we could still order 1/4 of a sandwich and purchase our own beers. This time, we almost missed our flight because we had so much in common and fell in love over crunchy potato chips (chip! chip! horray!) We sprinted to the gate, made our next flight, and were finally heading home. And that is the very short story of how we came to meet. The End. 



P.s. that picture is not a reenactment. It is an actual picture of what I looked like the night I meant Jared. That's why I thought he was a serial killer for a short amount of time. Jared asked me between 100-500 times if I wanted to go for a walk on the beach after dinner and I said no 100-500 times. Jared was confused, because I have never said no to a walk on the beach and I am usually the one adorably demanding we go. After time 501 I said yes, not realizing that he was trying to be romantic and propose to me. I figured the faster we went for this walk the faster I could get back up to the pool. We had a delicious dinner with nice drinks, took our walk on this gorgeous beach and Jared proposed on our last night in the Seychelles *insert heart eye emoji* It didn't really sink in until the next morning when I was drinking my coffee and the beautiful ring he designed caught my eye. Love you, Jarebear!

5:30 PM- Ceremony begins at the Big Chill Beach Club, Delaware



Reception to follow the ceremony, also at the Big Chill.&nbsp;



After Party-&nbsp;We are plotting a fun dance party in Dewey beach for after the wedding.&nbsp; Stay tuned for more information.&nbsp;

Megan and I met at Lahainaluna High School when she started in 2013. I was excited to find out there was a new inclusion teacher right next door to me, as the regular teacher was...an interesting character. I went over to introduce myself and welcome Megan to the Math Department. Now looking back and knowing Megan, I got to meet her in one of her moments of pure anxiety and uncontrollable awkwardness/need to agree and say okay to everything because she is in an uncomfortable position. After a few minutes of chit chat, I learned that Megan was an English teacher. I didn't know her extreme aversion to mathematics, as I had not yet heard the story of her stabbing herself in the eyeball with a pencil to get out of math class in high school. The conversation continued, and Megan kept saying "yea it's going to be okay. I'm going to go to Office Max and get some things for the bulletin board" while sweat slowly permeated her upper lip. I thought it was just Lahaina heat. I offered my help and to review any topics with her as she "had not even seen Geometry since high school" (reference pencil-eye story), and I left, hoping we didn't lose another new teacher. We didn't, and Megan stayed at Lahainaluna (in the English Department) for the next four years. I could detail many more stories about getting yelled at by Germans to respect the laws of America or late night antics that usually involve chick mcnugs (go to bed Tal!), but Megan was so much more than a series of anecdotes. Megan became one of my best friends through our time in Maui together. Maui life became a real life with besties, and Megan always pushed us to get out into new adventures. And then eat food and attempt to restrict her beer and gluten intake. She is a soul sister that teaches me to believe in a better version of all that I see around me, including myself. I am so lucky to have been a part of Megan and Jared's life in Hawaii, and I can't wait to be a part of their big day.&nbsp;

From the moment I met Megan, I knew we were soul sistas. I wish I could recount the moment that we actually introduced each other but I'm pretty sure it involved the intoxicating smell of an overly chlorinated pool. Megan and I first met on the swim team at Radford University. It was love at first kickboard... haha! Just kidding! Pretty sure the first time Megan and I actually spoke to each other was at a "team meeting" at the junior captain's house...and by "team meeting" I mean party at someone's house with a Natural light keg (If you don't know what Natural light is, consider yourself lucky but if you do, you know how to keep it classy). We hit it off from the start. We shared a passion for fun, travel, adventure and really bad jokes. We shared countless laughs over stupid team drama, spent endless nights planning dream vacations and approximately one hundred hours perfecting the dance to LMFAO's party rock. Since college we have always found ourselves in different time zones but despite the time difference, we always manage to catch each other on the latest and greatest. I am so thankful to have an amazing friend that will meet you in Nicaragua on a whim and I am so thankful Megan and I have been able to feed our friendship over so many years with adventure. Cheer Megan and Jare Bear! Love you both!

My first journal entry with a mention of Megan was Nov 11, 2013. It read "SPED teacher, Megan, reminds me of me. I need to hang out with her more often. Me, Jared (Kahaialii), Megan, Marc (Watasaki) and Megan's friend Marc (Umayam) went drinking at Moose's then Spanky's then down at Wahikuli beach. Skinny dipping! Jared hit his head on a rock."

From the beginning, it's been non-stop adventure. Bonding over school duties - advising freshmen, meetings, chaperoning, saccurity "need to go" to life duties - walking a pup, hiking to waterfalls, camping, traveling, dancing at concerts, swimming at the beach and eating way too much food. Our distance could never break that bond

We have a set of rooms blocked off for our party. The hotel is located in the heart of Bethany, more importantly, it is within walking distance of soft serve ice cream and Thrashers fries.

Feel like forming your own bike gang? As someone that visits occasionally in the summer, I can say with confidence that there's nothing more local than hopping on a bike and cruising around town! (But really, it's a great way to get around and it beats fighting for parking. Also you can extend your beach happy hour worry free!) If I see you on an electric bike rental I will accidentally hit you with my car. I mean, you do you!
