Proposal

We planned a road trip around Utah to get away and reset while touring the five national parks and Lake Powell. Patrick had planned to propose while we were staying at Lake Powell, but our stay there did not wow either of us. The day he decided to propose was day 9 of our 10 day trip and we had been driving around the state a few hours every day. We were both tired and decided that we wanted to relax at a winery and hike the last two parks the next day. Patrick hates being a passenger so until now I had let him drive. I wanted to drive to the winery and he, very begrudgingly, agreed to navigate. He told me I would have to turn onto highway 128 in 10 miles and 10 miles later, because he gave no other reminders, we watched the turn we needed pass by. Turning around was not an option because the highway we were on was under construction. Traffic going back was 4 miles of stopped, bumper to bumper traffic. Not lying, I was pretty mad at him. If this was his manipulative way of not having to be a passenger ever again I was not having it. The signs for Arches national park read 3 miles so I decided whether Patrick liked it or not we were going to the park. As we moved through the park our moods improved and of course I could not stay mad at him. We decided since we were there anyway and it was a couple hours until sunset we would hike to the Delicate Arch. This hike is a moderate intensity hike of about 3 miles. When we finally arrived at the end of our hike we looked around at the place and all the people that were already gathered there for sunset. Off to the side relaxed and sprawled in the shade of a large rock formation was a man sitting by himself. In true Patrick Schauer fashion, we had to go sit by this lone human and learn his life story. We had arrived about two hours before sunset so we had time to kill. Pat started talking to our new friend and we learned his name was Salar Sal a Persian, an accomplished pianist, and constitutional law professor at Penn State. Sal was road tripping all over the country and had been sitting, watching people come and go for several hours. As our conversation ranged from the parks and travels, books and philosophies, Sal opened up to us about why he was traveling. He had lost a close friend the month before and was spreading his ashes in different places around the country. Here at the Delicate Arch was one of those places. We in turn opened up to him as well. He eventually commented on our relationship and how we appeared to balance each other. Sal decided it was time for him to leave. Pat asked him to take a picture for us. At this point we had taken more pictures on this trip than I probably have in a year so I was not excited. As I turned around I found Patrick on his knee asking me to be his forever travel buddy. While taking our pictures Sal in disbelief with tears all down his face said wait are you proposing? This turned everyones attention to us and we got some pretty heavy applause as I said yes!

Our Story

We have rooms blocked starting Thursday night if people are wanting to come to town early. Make sure to reserve a by 09/16/21 or the rooms will not be available. Call us if you try to get a room in our block and are unable. We are able to block more rooms if we know people need them ahead of time.

Residence Inn by Marriott Lincoln South

We have a large shuttle bus that will depart from The Residence Inn south at 2:00 pm to take guests to Glacial Till. The bus will return guests from Glacial Till to the hotel at 11:30 pm. You do not have to stay at the Residence Inn in order to take the bus just be there to load the bus before the departure times, If you want to ride the shuttle to take worry away from the commute there will be plenty of space. If you are going to want to leave earlier or arrive later driving yourself is an option as well. There is plenty of parking at the winery.

Spend a day at the pumpkin patch. Great place for young ones during the day. Enjoy a hayrack ride, choosing the perfect pumpkin, or let your kids tire themselves out in the bouncy houses. Things get a little spooky at night. Move through the haunted house or paintball some zombies either way it's a great time.
