Matt and Megan met on a dating app called Hinge in May of 2020, the beginning of what would become the pandemic. Megan was living in Tucson, Arizona while Matt was living in Colstrip, Montana; a short 1,323 miles apart. Matt had to be quite convincing to keep Megan’s interest with so much distance between them but finally, after several months of texting, phone calls and FaceTime, they finally met in person in August of 2020 and the rest is history.
While the long distance was working, Matt chose to leave his career in engineering in June of 2021 to pursue his lifelong dream of being an Airline Pilot. This allowed him to move to Tucson to begin flight training. Matt claims the move had nothing to do with chasing the girl of his dreams but we all know he's lying. Matt, Megan and their dog-ter Cassie started a life together. Matt was able to complete his training and become a flight instructor to gain flight hours, working out of Tucson International Airport. Megan continued her career as a Child Life Specialist at Banner Health - Diamond Children's Hospital.
Matt was hired by SkyWest Airlines in April, 2024. With the change in career came a need for Matt and Megan to relocate. After careful consideration, they landed on Minnesota as their new home. Megan immediately began applying for the competitive and scarce job opportunities in Child Life in the Twin Cities area.
March of 2024 was an exciting month for Matt and Megan. Megan’s parents, Londa and Steve, and her brother Nick, were visiting from Wisconsin on the weekend of March 14th and planned on meeting Matt’s parents, Mark and Leanne, for the first time. On March 15th, Megan received a call from Gillette Children’s Hospital in St. Paul, MN and was offered a position as a Child Life Specialist. On March 16th, Matt and Megan’s families met at Matt’s grandmother, Nan’s, house, where their families enjoyed getting to know one another and celebrate the news of Megan’s new job. Matt took this opportunity of family gathering to surprise Megan and chose to propose that evening. Matt had known for years that Megan was the one and held on to the ring for several months, waiting for the right opportunity. The proposal that night caught Megan by surprise. She had NO idea or inkling this would happen. Thankfully, she said Yes!
Shortly after, Matt left to begin flight training for SkyWest on March 21st, where he would be gone for over two months. Life began to move quickly as Megan would be starting her new job in St.Paul in May. On top of this, they needed to move their lives from Arizona to Minnesota, all while Matt was stuck in training in Denver. Without the help, support, and love from family and friends, this could not have been possible.
Moving to Minnesota has been a bittersweet transition. Megan lived in Tucson for 6 years and Matt for 3 years. Together, they were able to spend a lot of time with family and made lifelong friends they now consider family. Tucson will forever be a huge part of their lives and where their love story began.
From Matt and Megan: Fast forward to today, we are settled in a quiet neighborhood in Apple Valley, MN. Megan is loving her new job at Gillette Children’s and Matt is officially based out of Minneapolis-St. Paul International airport. Cassie is loving her grassy yard to roll around in, squirrels to watch, and the changing seasons. When they say you have to trust the pieces of life will fall into place, it is true. Although there have been so many changes, exciting and stressful, over the last year, we continue to grow as a couple, enjoying our new life together in Minnesota. Now, we are anxiously waiting to tie the knot and officially become Mr. and Mrs. Mullaney on July 26, 2025! We are truly grateful for everyone in our lives, those who have gotten to know us as a couple, support us, and rally around us through life's obstacles; it’s truly an amazing reflection. We can’t wait to celebrate our special day with each and every one of you!
