On a beautiful Spring day in May 2020, I got ready for my senior bar crawl. A friend's boyfriend was hosting a cookout before the event which sounded like the perfect way to enjoy one of my last few Saturdays at college. As I arrived, I introduced myself to the few boys that were there and quickly got on my way to snacking with my friends. A little bit later one of the guys sat down and began chatting with us. I don't think I could describe it as love at first sight, because I had to ask him for his name again. Justin.
A wannabe frat boy named Justin wearing a baseball jersey at a darty before going on his friend's senior bar crawl when he's been out of college for 3 years. YIKES. He was funny and had a sweet smile, but when he suggested we run to the gas station for Four Lokos, I figured he was a little too outgoing for me. For those of you who have never had a Four Loko before, just picture clumps of sugar mixed with the strongest (and worst tasting) alcohol you can imagine. I politely said, "No thanks, I'm going to go see my other friend instead" and left the party.
Later that afternoon, I came back and once again started chatting with the frat boy and learned a lot about him in a short amount of time. It turns out he had his life together and did not actually belong to a frat. He was kind, silly, smart and thankfully did not drink more than a few sips of the Four Loko. As he tagged along on the bar crawl, I found myself sitting and talking with him for most of the night.
Later that night, we were at Kilkenny's (our first of many fun nights at our favorite spot) and I told him I was going to go dance with my roommates next door. He said he was leaving soon, but he would text me to see each other again.
About 2 hours later, my roommates and I were leaving and as I walked by the window of Kils, I see Justin smiling like a kid on Christmas giving me the biggest wave. Now this is the moment when I should have realize he is a golden retriever who loves to talk to everyone and runs on about 3 hours of sleep.
Since that day, we have shared many laughs about our original thoughts on each other. His friends laugh about how he values a good night's rest much more now since he's met me. We often drive by the house where we met and smile thinking about how we had no idea how life would change that beautiful Spring day.
