Our Wedding

The curtain rises on autumn 2014. Iain was well-established in Boston, having&nbsp;lived there since 2010. &nbsp;He had recently started going to St. Cecilia’s in the Back Bay because of a Commonweal magazine readers’ group, but he stayed because of the active young adult community. Meanwhile, very close by, something was stirring&hellip; 

That same autumn, Meghan ventured out to Massachusetts&nbsp;for her year of service at Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program. With no contacts in the area, she needed to make friends fast&nbsp;😬. She looked up churches near her apartment and stumbled upon Saint Cecilia’s. After her first mass, she attended a young adult ice cream social located in the parish&nbsp;basement. She was welcomed into the young adult community and within a month&nbsp;was on the planning committee&mdash;talk about LEADERSHIP!























A few weeks later, Iain joined the committee as well. The two became close friends. One Sunday during mass Iain interlaced his hands with Meghan’s as they said the Our Father. After the priest finished&nbsp;the prayer, Meghan dropped her hand&hellip; but Iain continued to hold on&nbsp;tight. Meghan’s heart beat faster&mdash;she wasn’t sure if it was God's holiness or&nbsp;her great attraction to the man next to her&nbsp;...and the rest is history! Sadly, that last part didn’t actually happen&nbsp;(except for the attraction part 😉),&nbsp;but it makes for a good story!























After six months of dating, Meghan moved back to the Midwest to start medical school. For the next two years, the relationship depended on nightly FaceTime dates, JetBlue flights, and Iain’s flexible schedule (thanks Novarica!). Then Iain went&nbsp;west young man, went&nbsp;west, but unfortunately overshot Detroit by about 3 hours and landed in Indiana to receive his MBA from Notre Dame. Whoops!

 























After dating for over three years, they were ready for the next step. 

 























Unfortunately, neither of them had the time to train a dog, so they decided to get married instead!

How We Got Here

Iain had many consultations with Meghan, and having a very, very good idea about what she wanted for the ring, he bought one. The time was finally right on a weekend trip they took to Stratford, Ontario to see the theatre festival. On a lovely Sunday afternoon, on the banks of the Avon river, surrounded by beautiful flower gardens, Iain started to tell Meghan how he felt about her. Then a family of Canadian picnickers interrupted their special moment. Iain and Meghan regrouped, got back to privacy and Iain got down on&nbsp;one knee and asked Meghan to marry him.

She said yes. Hooray! The two celebrated with ice cream (classic Meghan move) and headed back to the States to share the great news with their families.

Wedding Day Festivities

Upon returning to The Dearborn Inn after the wedding celebration,&nbsp;we would like to invite all our guests to enjoy light refreshments in the Lincoln Room, which is located off of the main lobby. We hope that our family and friends can take this time to gather in each other's company prior to the formal cocktail reception that begins at 5:00pm in the historic Alexandria Ballroom.&nbsp;

We want&nbsp;to thank all our&nbsp;out-of-town family and friends that have&nbsp;traveled near and far to help us celebrate our special day. Iain and I are&nbsp;sincerely grateful that you will share&nbsp;in the joy of our marriage. Thank you!

For individuals who&nbsp;are&nbsp;traveling from out of town, we have made arrangements for shuttle transportation from The Dearborn Inn to Saints Peter and Paul Jesuit Church for our nuptial mass that will begin&nbsp;at 1:00pm. We will begin to gather in the main lobby of The Dearborn Inn at 11:45am with a sharp departure time of 12:15pm.&nbsp;In the unexpected event that a guest is unable to make the 12:15pm departure, we encourage those individuals to seek Lyft or Uber transportation. The shuttle bus will return guests to The Dearborn Inn&nbsp;after the ceremony.

We have reserved the lot behind the church for parking on our wedding day. This&nbsp;lot is free and supervised by an attending. Please follow the green arrowed route&nbsp;to access the church after parking. This route&nbsp;is handicap accessible.&nbsp;

Visit Meghan's favorite bakeshop located in Detroit's West Village. Meghan&nbsp;suggests trying out&nbsp;the fennel seed snickerdoodles or a slice of&nbsp;&nbsp;Strawberry Rhubarb pie. Iain's go to is a&nbsp;cinnamon bun!&nbsp;&nbsp;
