Strenuous 4-mile hiking loop to the summit of Knocknarea that will take about 2.5 hours but rewards you with spectacular views as the mountain dominates the Sligo skyline. The hike starts in Strandhill about 15 minutes from Sligo City.
Formed from limestone over 300 million years ago, the summit is crowned by the great cairn of Queen Maeve. (In Irish mythology Knocknarea is the burial place of the beautiful Warrior Queen Maeve of Connaught.) The large cairn that sits atop the mountain was probably built around 3400 BC, while some of the smaller passage tombs are potentially some one hundred years older.
An easy and casual 3.5-mile walking loop that can take around 1.5 hours with amazing views of the mountains and the sea that is just 15 minutes from Sligo City.
A six-mile loop of single-lane road surrounded by spectacular mountain views. It is about 30 to an hour driving tour about 30 minutes outside of Sligo.
Easy 3 mile (out and back) hike to the hilltop of a Neolithic cemetery. There are several tomb passages that can still be accessed inside through a small passageway.
