Why San Miguel de Allende?
With Jack's family in California & Meg's in Texas, Canada & Michigan... and Jack in Mexico... and Meg in Washington D.C.... well there was no central place to do this thing! So we started out looking at Mexico City, but the city is HUGE! We thought a smaller town would be easier to corral everyone in & once we heard about SMA we couldn't look away.
How the heck do you even get there?!
Fly into Santiago de Queretaro...duh! Queretaro (QRO) is the main airport for SMA and they have plenty of taxis, ubers, and car rentals, even shuttles, that take hundreds of tourists to SMA daily. It is about a 90 minute drive and at the time of writing this an Uber/cab costs $60. For the most common flights arriving to QRO, we'll also be organizing a few sprinter vans to help guests split the costs and simplify the logistics. Speaking of which, direct flights to Queretaro go out of Houston, Dallas, and Los Angeles.
You can also fly into León Del Bajio (BJX). It's slightly farther away but also works and has direct flights to the U.S.
OR! You could fly into Mexico City & rent a car and drive about 3 hours. I wouldn't recommend this one because why not just fly in closer! But if you're trying to tie our wedding to a trip to CDMX (good for you!) then this is very doable. The drive is really pretty and the highways are in great shape and perfectly safe too.

Where should I stay?
SMA has an insane amount of beautiful and affordable AirBnBs and hotels. Like California, SMA will be quite hot during the day and cool down at night. A lot of AirBnBs do not have air conditioning, if you run hot consider an AC'd hotel, we aren't getting a hotel block -- most hotels here are tiny anyways! SMA is a really small town and very walkable but the closer you are to Jardin Allende (see map) the better!
When should I fly in?
Definitely not Saturday! SMA is at 6200 ft, 1000 ft higher than Denver. That takes a night to get used to. Consider coming in Thursday or Friday to make the most of this enchanting town! It's a scientific fact no one has ever come to SMA and said "hmm I wish we left sooner." Also, frankly, you need to adjust to the altitude!
What's the dress code?
Formal! Formal as in... this is a Catholic wedding in Mexico so we do want you dressed nicely! Men should wear suits and ties but come walk to the venue and cocktail hour/ reception, feel free to take off the tie and jacket and roll your sleeves up. It's hot in Mexico.
For our beautiful ladies, dresses! Shorter, midi, long... it's up to you! Meg would probably wear a midi dress -- but that's just Meg. And we're serious when we say the cobblestone is treacherous -- so either wear flats or block heels (but truly recommend flats! Plus we want you comfy for DANCING!).
Do I need a visa?
Nope, Americans only need a valid US passport to fly into Mexico.
What else do I need to know?
As mentioned above... SMA is high up. If you can take the time off work to come in a day or two earlier, your body will be thankful. While you're here, we recommend you drink about triple the amount of water you normally do at home. Frankly, you can't drink TOO much water. And when it comes to draaaanks Friday and Saturday -- we're serious when we say to pace yourself.
