Meghan believes they met in 7th grade in Mrs. Monroe's English class. Pat sat in front of Meghan and they began talking about the fact that he had just moved from Minnesota. Meghan remembers small interactions with Pat after that due to having overlapping friend groups and similar class schedules. They began talking more in their Junior year of high school when they frequently worked on group projects together in history and Meghan joined the cross-country team.
Patrick remembers meeting Meghan in sophomore year chemistry class. They had overlapping classes leading through high school but really didn't start talking until junior year and senior year cross country.
Meghan and Pat's first date was on September 12th, 2019 during their senior year of high school. They began the date by going to Mod Pizza and then went mini golfing. While mini-golfing they decided they were having too much fun to leave and tried to cut over to another course but got caught. In hindsight, they were the only ones there so they should have known better. They went back to the original course and Pat instantly got a "hole in one".... on the next hole. We were on hole 9, Pat hit the ball and it went straight into the hole on hole 10. According to Pat that was the selling point. Maybe it was because after mini golf they decided to keep the date going and go to Baskin Robbins for some ice cream. After talking for some time and bonding over having lived in Minnesota (full circle moment to when they first met) they decided neither of them were ready for the date to be done and chose to go to a movie. They saw Good Boys - a great first date movie (it's a comedy if you aren't familiar). They hung out nearly every day after that and officially started dating on September 22nd, 2019.
Meghan and Pat got engaged on March 16th,2023. The plan was a sunset hike and a sunset proposal with a great view behind them. Unfortunately, it did not work out that way. They set off for Black Canyon of the Gunnison with no issues but upon arriving things started heading south. The road to the trailhead was closed due to snow and Meghan instantly saw Pat's friends who were there to take pictures. With the road close, they had three options: hike an extra 2 miles, go down an icy hill to a lookout point with no sunset view, or hike and hope they got high enough up to see the sunset. They chose to hike and hope for the best. The view never did come but they did stop to make some snow angels before heading back to the lookout. By the time they got to the lookout, it was pretty dark and very cold but Pat decided to go for it anyway. Turns out Meghan's nails happened to be glow-in-the-dark and the ring box had a light on it. In the end, the sunset was missed, the surprise was partially ruined, Pat's "photographer" got food poisoning, Meghan's hands were freezing and no one got good pictures but the ring fit and Meghan said yes! It all worked out in the end!
