Meghan and Ian met in high school, and started dating in 2016. Shortly after Ian graduated, he was off to bootcamp in San Diego for training. Meghan wrote over 100 letters to him during those 3 months of training, which was their only form of communication. The next 5 years was spent doing long distance as Meghan attended Iowa State University, studying Interior Design, and Ian continued his service. Those 5 years consisted of countless FaceTime calls and occasional leave blocks.

2021 was an exciting year as Meghan graduated college and Ian finished his 5 years of service in the Marine Corps. The next 3 years Ian attended Illinois State University studying criminal justice, while Meghan worked in Chicago at an architecture firm and ran her photography business. Ian made many weekend visits back home so the two could spend time together.

As the two quickly approached their 8 year anniversary in the spring of 2024, Meghan was anxiously waiting for a proposal. At the end of May they took a week long trip to to the East Coast, spending a few days in Boston and then driving up to Maine. Ian had planned to make a little stop on the way at the Portland Head Light, where he finally proposed! It was a site to see as Meghan had no choice but to climb across some slippery rocks to get to the spot Ian had in mind.
