It all started with a match. Like many other single people in the beginning of the pandemic, we resorted to online dating. We originally matched in March of 2020, during the heart of the pandemic. Mel remembers matching with Jeff because he had a dog in one of his pictures (thanks Bailey!) Just like every other millennial couple, we resorted to FaceTime “dates” until outdoor dining reopened. Jeff remembers the itty bitty detail of every single FaceTime date, and Mel remembers that they sat on the phone for a while but could not tell you one thing we talked about- per usual, we all know she doesn’t have the best memory. It wasn’t until June 2020 when we were finally able to go on our first date- outdoor of course. The parking lot of the Airmont Diner will forever mean the world to us. Who would've known that those FaceTime dates would eventually lead to marriage.

Over the last few years, we have been through it all together and our relationship and more importantly friendship grew stronger. The first date led to many more good times and memories including Mel becoming an Aunt, winery tours, and adventures from “Maine to Miami,” which is exactly what Jeff said when he popped the big question-but don’t ask Mel since she was in shock the entire night. Thank god there was video proof that he even spoke since Mel doesn’t remember anything Jeff said!

The Proposal

On January 28, 2023, we had dinner plans with Jeff’s sister and mom at Fire and Oak. Mel kept saying “why are we going there? It’s such a random restaurant.” Little did Mel know, her family would be there too. However, “project x” as it was referred to during the planning process, was secretly being set up for many weeks in advance.

Upon arriving at the restaurant, the Maitre D played along great and escorted Mel and Jeff to the private dining room, he even grabbed menus. Immediately upon entering the room, Mel was in complete shock after seeing our families and photographer looking on. It was then, that Jeff proposed and as he got down on one knee he knocked over the styrofoam “M” in the process. The rest of the night was filled with good food, drinks, and most importantly we were showered with love from our families.

We cannot wait to continue our journey and celebrate with all of you our wedding day! From Maine to Miami to marriage, here we go!
