Fate, Fun, and a Little Lightning

Our journey together began in a rather unexpected place: a pizza joint during a poker game. Neither of us were looking for anything serious that day, but fate had other plans. What started as a casual game soon turned into a connection that neither of us could deny. Our first date felt like it could last forever. We met for breakfast and quickly lost track of time. Our conversation flowed so effortlessly that we decided to stretch the day into lunch... and then dinner. From that moment on, we knew we had something special. Both of us are deeply rooted in family, and that connection has been at the heart of our relationship from the very beginning. I’ve always been a proud dog mom to Scamp and Goober, and Kris became their favorite human almost as quickly as he became mine. The proposal came during a family trip to Arkansas on July 4th weekend. Kris had planned a perfect moment for the two of us on a boat, but as we set out, the weather had other ideas. Thunder, lightning, and rain forced us to turn back. But Kris wasn’t deterred. Back at the house, with everyone peacefully asleep, he got down on one knee on the deck and proposed. The moment was intimate, sincere, and full of love. When everyone else woke up, we celebrated with a champagne toast before breakfast. Our story has been one full of love, laughter, and the kind of memories that only get better with time. We can’t wait to continue this adventure together as we start this next chapter.

Not only is Melinda my sister, but she’s also my best friend and biggest supporter. From childhood adventures to wedding planning chaos, she’s been by my side through it all. Her kindness, humor, copious amounts of craft supplies, and unwavering love make her the perfect Maid of Honor. I couldn’t imagine this special day without her standing next to me!

Melinda Goens

Doug has been Kris’ best friend since they were 14, and together, they are nothing but trouble (the fun kind, of course). He’s funny, reliable, and the proud father of Kris’ goddaughter, Mia. Whether it’s cracking jokes or having each other’s backs, Doug has been a constant in Kris’ life, and there’s no one better to stand by his side on the big day.

My “bonus sister” and Kris’ oldest sister, Victoria is loud, funny, and has the biggest heart. She’s the kind of person who makes everyone feel welcome and loved, and she’s also an amazing mom. I couldn’t imagine this day without her by my side, bringing laughter and joy to every moment!

Nick has been Kris’ brother since birth—literally. He’s the smart one of the bunch and does something crazy with eyeballs for a living (don't ask…or do, it’s pretty interesting). Living in Seattle, he’s a true foodie who’s always on the hunt for the best bites. No matter how far apart they are, the bond between these brothers is unshakable.

My not-so-little baby cousin, Dana, is a gorgeous redhead with a heart just as fiery! She’s fun-loving, silly, and always knows how to make people laugh. Hard-working and full of life, she’s been such a light in my life, and I can’t wait to have her standing with me on my big day.

Chase is the responsible one in the group—the glue that keeps everyone together. A big family guy at heart, he’s always looking out for the people he cares about. Whether it’s planning a get-together or keeping the crew in check, Chase is the kind of friend you can always count on.

Reagan (Kris' little sister) is truly a real-life ballerina princess! She’s the sweetest and kindest young lady, and her grace extends far beyond the dance floor. Not only is she incredibly talented, but she’s also in the top 10% of her senior class—talk about beauty and brains! I’m so honored to have her as a bridesmaid.

Nash is the wild card—the one always stirring up shenanigans and down for absolutely anything. If there’s fun (or trouble) to be had, Nash is leading the charge. Life’s never boring with him around, and there’s no doubt he’ll bring the party to the wedding!

Joel and Kris became friends through church, and from day one, he’s been the guy you just want to hang out and chill with. Laid-back and hilarious, Joel is the kind of friend who makes every gathering better. Whether it’s deep convos or just cracking jokes, Joel always brings good vibes.

When it came to choosing our officiant, there really wasn’t a discussion—Nathan was the obvious choice. Sure, his booming voice and ability to command a room are a bonus, but it’s who he is as a person that truly made the decision easy. Nathan is a great friend, always there when you need him, a fantastic listener, and an all-around solid dude. The way he leads his family and supports those around him is nothing short of inspiring, and we couldn’t be more grateful to have him officiate our wedding.

The coolest 14-year-old we know, Ashley (oldest niece) is always dancing, tumbling, or working on her splits! She’s also a human jukebox—if there’s music playing, she knows the lyrics and is singing along. Her energy and enthusiasm make everything more fun, and I’m so excited to have her as my junior bridesmaid!

Jayden is the oldest nephew and the ultimate mix of sweet, funny, and just a little bit crazy! Wicked smart and super competitive, he’s always up for a challenge—whether it’s a game, a debate, or discovering the coolest bugs. His energy and enthusiasm make everything more exciting, and we’re so happy to have him as part of the wedding crew!
