Melinda was friends with Steven's sister, Claire for 2 years before she introduced Melinda to Steven. They knew the relationship was going somewhere after their second date lasted 6.5 hours. Melinda knew Steven was special when her (now their) cat Larry came to him immediately, when he normally takes weeks to warm up to a new friend.

Melinda has shared her love of group fitness with Steven, who joined the YMCA after their second date, came to his first class after their third date, and now consistently goes several times a week and has gotten certified to teach cycle classes!

Steven "subjected" Melinda to the Marvel universe, and they watched the entire infinity saga together. In return, Melinda made Steven watch Great British Baking Show- he now has a personalized apron that says "Star Baker" and insists on buying all the gadgets on the show.
