Our Story (As Narrated by Mel)

Picture of Our Story (As Narrated by Mel)

Well our story is a little different...we were actually brought together by the grace of God through something that you would never think, a car accident. Definitely shows his blessings in the worst of situations! It was not your typical "How did you meet?" story...

It was a Saturday night in February of 2015 when Erik got T-boned by a drunk driver very late right in front of my house. I didn't know him at the time and I had no idea he was in the car with Emily's boyfriend Chris, (Emily was my roommate at the time). It was the loudest and scariest thing I've ever heard. I thought someone was breaking into our house or that a car crashed into one of the cars in our driveway. I woke up half-asleep, saw the accident in front of our house, and not really thinking, just went back to bed. I slept through all the clean-up and woke up to find out that Chris and Erik were the ones who were hit. Thankfully neither of them was seriously hurt!

A week went by and Chris and my roommate, Emily, got engaged! They had an engagement party that night and Erik was there as he has been one of Chris's best friends since middle school. Erik was talking to my roommate, Addie, at the party so I joined the conversation since I wanted to meet the other guy in the car. We had several mutual friends and yet we had never met before so I wanted to chat with him about the accident. He even said he had been to parties hosted at our house and yet we never crossed paths. We chatted for about 45 minutes about the accident and the typical "Where you from?" and "What do you do?". He then "let me go back to my friends" and I didn't hear from him until the following Thursday...

I was curious about him but I didn't think anything of it since I had recently ended a 2.5 year relationship. The first time I heard from him after the party was via Facebook. He messaged me asking if I was going to our house party the upcoming Saturday. I thought it was a little strange he asked that since the party was at our house but I went with it and messaged him back. He asked for my phone number somewhere in there along the lines of regretting not getting it sooner. Fast forward to Saturday and he shows up among the other 40-50 people that attended that night. I saw him as he came in but he didn't come talk to me right away. Time went by and he finally came up to talk to me and my friend Mollie. I kind of blew him off and kept going around greeting people at the party until he came up and grabbed me to chat 1-on-1. We chatted for a while and then parted ways because the party was still going on. As it started to die down, I noticed that he was one of the remaining few because little did I know, he wanted to ask me on our first date. He told me earlier in the night that he would take me on the best first date I would ever have, so when he asked, I accepted.

We went on our first date the following Saturday and the rest is history. We are so very thankful for our story and how the Lord brought us together. We cannot wait to start our lives together as the Ross family in August!

And for the record, it was the best first date I've ever had!
