There are a few options for traveling to Cozumel, Mexico.

Flying

You can fly directly into Cozumel, Mexico (CZM)

- Airlines such as American, Southwest, Delta, United, Frontier, AeroMexico, and Volaris fly into Cozumel.

- Sometimes flying directly into Cozumel can cost more, but the airport is only minutes from town and very convenient.

You can fly into Cancun, Mexico (CUN)

- Cancun offers many options for airlines and prices.

- Once you land in Cancun you have three options.

1. Take a taxi or hire a private car to Playa del Carmen. Here is more information on how to arrange a taxi: https://www.cancunairport.com/taxi.html

2. From the Cancun Airport you can board the ADO Shuttle Bus to Playa del Carmen. The buses run regularly and cost 216 pesos (about $11 USD) one-way. These are nice buses with larger seats, air conditioning - not your typical shuttle experience. Once in Playa del Carmen you will need to take a ferry into Cozumel. It's easy and takes about 40 minutes. There are two ferry companies, Ultramar and WinJet. Ferries run multiple times per day, sometimes every hour. The price for one-way is 250 pesos (about $12.50 USD).

3. You can hire a private charter from Cancun to Cozumel. This is a more expensive option but you get your own private tour of the Caribbean seas and the flight takes 20 minutes.

Recommendation - if using ADO and the ferry, only buy your ticket for one-way. Usually tickets are purchased for a specific time. And once on island time things can change. You may want to stay an hour later and enjoy that last sip of your margarita. If you miss that ticket time you'll have to buy another. Currently the Cozumel/Playa ferry only has one company running per day. If you buy a roundtrip you may not be taking the same company back. Best to buy one-way and purchase the return when you know you're ready to leave.

Getting around Cozumel

- Taxis. There are more taxis in town that you can imagine. You can find one on almost every corner. Some hotels even staff a taxi so one is readily available for when you're ready to explore. - Rental Car. There are multiple rental car companies on the island. Many of the big companies, like Alamo, Budget, Hertz, are located at or near the airport. There are also local companies that rent as well.

- Scooters. Many local companies also offer scooter rentals. Cozumel is a tranquil town that allows for safe scootering, but always be careful and wear a helmet. It's a beach town so the main streets can sometimes be sandy and slippery. Plus there can be quite a few cruise ship tourists walking around that may have enjoyed an afternoon of tequila tasting.

- Walking. If staying in town, walking is an easy option. There are many restaurants, shops and bars throughout town.
