Apps to Download
For public transport in Munich or if you'd like to rent a bike, we recommend downloading the MVGO app, which makes it easy to rent bikes throughout the city & hop on public transport.
For affordable phone data, you can purchase a temporary e-SIM card through Airalo by downloading the Airalo app.
What should I check on my passport before traveling to Germany?
As a U.S. citizen traveling to Germany for tourism, business, or family visits (up to 90 days), you do not need a visa, but your passport must be valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure date from the Schengen area.
Please ensure your passport:
- Is valid for at least three months beyond your departure date.
- Was issued within the last ten years.
- Has at least two blank pages for entry stamps.
What are the closest airports?
The nearest major airport is Munich International Airport (MUC) in Germany, which we recommend for anyone flying in. From Munich, it's roughly a 1.5-2-hour drive to Oberjoch.
Where is Oberjoch located?
Oberjoch is a charming mountain village nestled in the Bavarian Alps, near the Austrian border, close to where Michi is from. Surrounded by stunning alpine scenery, we decided it's the perfect place to celebrate our wedding.
Is there accommodation nearby?
Oberjoch and the surrounding areas offer a wide range of hotels and guesthouses, providing plenty of accommodation options, especially if you're traveling by car. For your convenience, a taxi service can be arranged to take you home after the wedding. Since Oberjoch is a small village, all our recommended accommodations are within a 10-minute walk from the venue. However, for more affordable options, we encourage you to explore the nearby villages (e.g. Bad Hindelang), and feel free to reach out to us for assistance. For further details, please visit the travel section of our website for suggestions.
Should I rent a car?
We love the train—it’s quick and convenient! However, renting a car is recommended for more flexibility, especially if you plan to explore the area or continue your travels beyond Germany.
Is there a dress code for the wedding?
Yes, the dress code is semi-formal. Men are encouraged to wear suits or sport coats, and women can wear cocktail dresses or dressy separates. Please bring a light jacket or wrap as evenings can be cool.
Will the ceremony be indoors or outdoors?
The ceremony is planned to be outdoors, weather permitting. In case of rain, we will move the ceremony indoors at the Mekatzer Sportalp.
What kind of weather should we expect?
July in Oberjoch typically has mild to warm weather, with daytime temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F). However, it can be cooler in the mountains, especially in the evening.
Can we take pictures during the ceremony?
We kindly ask that you refrain from taking photos during the ceremony so our photographer & videographer can capture everything. Feel free to take pictures during the reception & party later!
Language of the Wedding?
The ceremony will be conducted in both German and English. Our friends are more than happy to help translate between languages if anyone needs it throughout the day and evening!
